중국의 FDI 결정요인 분석

국문 초록

본 논문은 동부해안지역 97개, 서부내륙지역 140개 등 총 237개의 중국 각 시(city)에 대한 2000∼2011년 동안의 패널자료를 이용하여 중국에 대한 FDI 결정요인을 다시 분석하고 있다. 특히 본 논문에서는 중국의 각 지역별 산업구조를 나타내는 변수로서 각 지역별 서비스업 비중을 모형에 포함함으로써 중국의 산업구조를 명시적으로 고려하여 분석하고 있다. 아울러 본 연구에서는 기존연구와는 달리 중국에 대한 FDI의 경우 동부해안지역과 서부내륙지역에 대한 투자 결정요인이 서로 다를 것이라는 가설 하에 이를 구분하여 다루고 있다. 분석결과 중국으로의 FDI는 생산효율추구형보다는 시장추구형 FDI인 것으로 나타났으며 이와 더불어 외국기업이 다수 존재하는 지역으로 투자됨으로써 집적효과를 누리려는 성향이 매우 강한 것으로 분석되었다. 그러나 산업구조를 의미하는 서비스업 비중은 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타나 중국의 산업구조에 따라 FDI 유입은 아직까지는 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 아울러 동부해안지역에서는 교육수준이, 서부내륙지역에서는 인프라수준이 중요한 결정요인으로 분석되었다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the determinants of FDI in China, by using the panel data from 2000 to 2011 on 237 Chinese cities including 97 east coast regions and 140 west inland areas. In particular, its empirical analysis examines the industrial structure of China by reflecting the proportion of each service sector to the model, as the proportion of each service sector indicates the industrial structure of China each region. Moreover, the distinction of this study is aimed at proving the hypothesis that the determinants of FDI between the east coast regions and west inland areas are different. The result of estimation shows that inward FDI in China features the market access FDI rather than the factor proportions FDI, and the investments tend to flow into the areas where the foreign enterprises are intensively distributed in pursuit of the strong agglomeration effect. However, the proportion of service sector which implies the industrial structure turns out to be not significant. In this regard, the FDI in China is yet to be affected by its industrial structure. In addition, it turns out that the crucial determinants of FDI are the education level in the east coast regions and the infrastructure in the west inland areas, respectively.
