국문 초록

중국 경제의 성장과 아시아 역내 경제권에서의 영향력 확대에 따라 위안화의국제적 영향력도 증가하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 중국경제의 성장에 비하여 국제통화체계에서 위안화의 위상은 매우 낮다. 자본항목의 자유로운 태환은 위안화 국제화의 필수 조건이다. 본 논문의 목적은 자본항목 자유화가 위안화 국제화에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것이다. 즉, 자본항목 자유화가 위안화 국제화에긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것인가, 그리고 자본항목 자유화 추진 과정과 위안화 국제화 우선순위와는 어떠한 상관관계가 존재하는가, 또는 자본항목 자유화 순서와 위안화 국제화 추진 과정에는 인과관계가 존재할 것인가를 추정하는 목적이있다. VAR모형 등 본고의 실증분석 결과를 고려할 경우, 자본 자유화 이후 미국 국채 금리 등 인상에 대응하여 상당한 자본이 유출될 가능성이 큰 것으로추정된다. 따라서 금융시장의 발전이 우선되어야 할 것이다. 이를 위해서는 금리 결정의 시장 기능 강화, 환율제도의 유연화 등 금리와 환율의 자유화가 필요하다. 한국에서도 중국의 자본항목 자유화 실시에 따른 영향을 분석하여 적절한 대응책을 마련해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The growing importance of the People’s Republic of China in the world economy has raised the question: is the status of RMB in international monetary system is suitable for its roles of world economy. China has strong controls in capital accounts and it is one of most big constraints for RMB internationalization. In this paper we study the influence of the liberalization of capital account controls on RMB internationalization. We project the effects of China s international position in financial market after capital account liberalization, and analyze the implications for the renminbi internationalization if China liberalizes the capital account. We assume in this exercise that the renminbi will have largely achieved capital account convertibility by the end of the current decade, a timetable consistent with recent proposals by the People s Bank of China. Our regression and VAR analysis shows that if the capital account were liberalized, China s gross international outflows would become much bigger and more imbalanced. The private sector would turn its net liability position into a imbalanced position. we insist that China should prepare more efficient financial market to advance the offshore use of RMB and RMB internationalization.
