다블뤼의 『조선 순교사 비망기』에 나온 『황사영 백서』 순교자 약전 인용 연구

국문 초록

『황사영 백서』는 북경의 구베아 주교에게 조선의 천주교 박해 상황을 알리고 도움을 요청하는 것을 목적으로 삼은 서한이기에 그 자체를 순교자 관련 자료로 보기 어렵다. 그러나 이 문헌의 절반 이상 분량이 순교자들의 약전이기에 순교자 관련 자료로서의 가치를 가지고 있다. 다블뤼는 신유박해 당시 순교자들의 약전을 서술하면서 『황사영 백서』를 인용하였다. 17건의 인용 사례 중 4건은 직접 인용하였으며, 5건은 간접 인용한 가운데 일부 내용만 직접 인용하였다. 다블뤼는 조선 교회 신자 측이 신유박해 순교자에 대해 기록한 거의 유일한 약전의 형태를 지닌 이 문헌의 사료적 가치에 대해 주목하였다. 비록 원본을 입수하지는 못했지만 이본 형태의 문서를 입수하고 활용하였다. 그리고 이를 『조선 순교사 비망기』의 신유박해 순교자 서술에 참조하였다. 다블뤼가 『조선 순교사 비망기』를 작성하면서 『황사영 백서』를 통해 인용 서술한 순교자 수는 14명이다. 비록 신유박해 전체 순교자 수에 비한다면 적은 수이지만 교회사적인 비중을 따져 볼 때 주요 순교자들이 들어가 있다. 다블뤼는 황사영의 자료를 충실히 반영하여 서술하였으나 간접 인용하였을 경우에는 다른 자료들을 통해 얻은 이야기도 일부 추가하여 서술하였다. 다블뤼가 추가한 내용은 순교자 자신의 강한 신앙심과 이를 지키기 위해 겪었던 유혹과 시련을 비롯하여 순교자의 가족 관계 및 신상이었다. 황사영이 미처 서술하지 못한 부분을 보충한 것이다. 다블뤼는 황사영이 남긴 순교자 자료를 인용하면서 비교적 상세하게 서술한 부분은 그대로 인용하였으며 그가 찾아낸 구술 자료를 포함한 다양한 수집 자료들을 활용하였다.

영문 초록

Silk Letter of Hwang Sa-yeong is a letter aimed at informing Bishop Gouvea of Beijing on the persecution against Catholicism in Korea and asking for help. Therefore, it is difficult to see the document as a martyr s material. However, more than half of these documents are biography of martyrs, so they have value as martyr-related data. Daveluy quoted Hwang Sa-yeong s record while describing the biography of the martyrs during 1801’s persecution. Of the seventeen citation cases, four were directly cited. And among the indirect citations, only five of them were directly cited. Daveluy paid attention to the historical value of this document, which has the almost unique form of biography that the believers of the Korean Catholic Church recorded about the martyrs. Although the original was not available, this type of document was obtained and utilized. This was referred to in the description on martyrs of 1801’s persecution in Notes pour l histoire des martyrs de Corée. The number of martyrs quoted in Silk Letter of Hwang Sa-yeong was fourteen, when Daveluy wrote Notes pour l histoire des martyrs de Corée. Although it is a small number compared to the total number of martyrs who persecuted in 1801, there are major martyrs in terms of church history. He described faithfully the data of Hwang Sa-young, but when it was indirectly cited, some stories obtained through other materials were also added. His additions were to the martyr s own strong faith and the temptations and trials he had to defend, as well as the martyr s family relations and personality. It is a supplement to the part that Hwang Sa-yeong did not describe. Daveluy cited the martyr s data left by Hwang Sa-yeong, while quoting the relatively detailed description as it was, and utilized a variety of collected materials, including oral information he found.
