중학생의 지능변화신념과 학업성취도 간의 종단적 관계 검증

국문 초록

이 연구에서는 교과별(국어, 영어, 수학)로 중학생들의 성장신념, 학업흥미, 그리고 학업성취의 관계를 종단적인 관계를 살펴보고, 학업흥미가 성장신념과 학업성취 사이의 관계를 종단적으로 매개하는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경기교육종단연구(GEPS)의 4-6차년도의 자료를 이용하여 자기회귀교차지연분석을 실시하였다. 중학교 1학년부터 3학년까지 2015년부터 2017년에 걸쳐 수집된 총 6,341명의 자료를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 성장신념, 학업흥미, 학업성취는 상호호환관계로 서로 예측력을 주고 받는 것으로 나타났다. 학업흥미의 종단적인 매개효과를 살펴보기 위해 부트스트래핑 검정을 실시하였다. 국어와 수학 교과에서 성장신념이 학업흥미를 통해 학업성취에 영향을 미치는 매개효과가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로, 중학교 1학년의 성장신념이 중학교 2학년의 학업흥미에 긍정적인 영향을 미치며, 이는 결과적으로 중학교 3학년의 학업성취를 높여주는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 이론적·교육적 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

In the present study, we investigated the longitudinal relations among growth mindset, academic interests, and achievement in Korean, English, and Mathematics. Further, we examined the mediating role of academic interest in the longitudinal relation between growth mindset and achievement. A cross-lagged panel model was adopted to analyze 3 waves of data from the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study data (GEPS). A total of 6,341 middle school students completed the surveys from 2015 to 2017. Findings indicated that growth mindset, academic interests, and achievement were reciprocally related to each other. Additionally, we adopted a bootstrapping approach to test the mediating role of academic interest in the relation between growth mindset and achievement. Results revealed that academic interest served as a pathway linking growth mindset to achievement in Korean and Mathematics. Specifically, growth mindset positively predicted subsequent changes in academic interests, which, in turn, positively predicted subsequent changes in achievement. Theoretical and practical implications of the findings were discussed.
