樂浪土城 출토 기와의 製作技法에 대한 考察

국문 초록

본 글에서는 樂浪土城에서 출토된 암키와 수키와 수막새의 제작방식을 검토하고, 그 전반적인 양상에 대해 정리하였다. 암키와 수키와의 제작은 성형틀을 사용하지 않는 ‘무틀성형기법’ 과 ‘원통형 성형틀’ 사용법으로 구분되며, 수막새는 雲文의 와당문양을 유지하되 다양한 접합방식이 구사되었다. 이것은 漢武帝이후 즉 前漢중 후기에 漢式조와방식을 도입한 결과로, 後漢 代및 北魏六朝의 새로운 기술요소들은 유입되지 않았던 것을 알 수 있다. 그러한 가운데 주목되는 점은 진한을 와범압날식시문법(수막[S]), 미구 성형방식과 같이 주변지역에서 찾을 수 없는 낙랑만의 제작방식이 나타난다는 것이다. 낙랑은 중원의 조와기술을바탕으로 그 기술적 범위 내에서 독자적인 생산 환경을 전개시켜 나갔다. 그러한 가운데 와범압날식시문법과 같이 주변지역에서 찾을 수 없는 기술요소가 나타나게 되며, 이것은 낙랑 내부의생산 환경 속에서 독자적인 제작방식을 정착해나간 과정으로 이해할 수 있다. 그러한 가운데, 낙랑의 조와기술은 백제 한성기로 비교적 충실히 유입된다. 다만, 낙랑의 조와기술이 그러하였듯, 백제 한성기의 조와기술도 수용하는 상황에서 그 기술정보를 받아들이면서변화 양상을 보이게 된다. 약 4세기에 이르는 긴 시간 동안 동아시아에서는 다양한 기와제작방식이 등장 변용되었고, 각 지역 나름의 기법으로 정착하였다. 전한대에 걸친 한식 조와기술의 수용 이후 후한을 거쳐북위와 육조에 이르기까지 조와기술의 새로운 양상이 낙랑 내에 보이지 않는다는 점, 그리고한반도 내의 백제로 그 교류의 방향이 전환되었던 상황은 당시 낙랑의 정치적 인식과도 연결될것이라 생각한다.

영문 초록

This study set out to review the manufacturing methods of concave, convex, and roof-end roofing tiles excavated at the Lelang Fortress and arrange their overall patterns. The Lelang roof tiles are basically the formative methods and roof-end patterns of Han Dynasty. The manufacturing methods of concave and convex roofing tiles are divided into the one with no formative frames and the cylindrical Watong method. Roof-end tiles kept the cloud patterns and used various methods of connection. There are elements that are difficult to be found in the castle towns of Han such as convex roofing tiles made with the formative frame to separate Migu and roof-end tiles made with the formative frame of unified roof-end and convex tiles. This suggests that the unique manufacturing methods of Lelang might have settled down after the acceptance and transformation process following the introduction of roof tile making techniques during some period. These features become more apparent in comparison with the roof tiles of Northern Wei and Six Dynasties that existed during the years of Lelang or before and after it. The roof tile making techniques of Lelang were maintained for many years with few contacts with the technological information from the outside. They had active impacts on the roof tile making techniques of Baekje during the Hanseong period, in which process the technical elements of Lelang s roof tiles were conveyed to Baekje as they were. There are limitations indeed with estimating the locations of roof tiles made and used in Lelang for many years in terms of time and space, but it must be the most objective approach to the technological flows and exchange patterns of those days to examine common and different features in the roof tile making techniques among the areas of East Asia.
