국문 초록

2019년 말에 빌헬무스 아 브라컬(Wilhelmus à Brakel, 1635-1711)의 『그리스도인의 합당한 예배』(전4권)가 한글로 완역되어 출간되었다. 아 브라컬은 나더러 레포르마찌 시기에 활동했던 수많은 화란 신학자, 목회자들 중에 가장 대중적인 작가이며, 『그리스도인의 합당한 예배』는 320년 동안 절판된 적이 없을 정도로 많이 읽혀온 실천적 교의학이다. 이 중요한 대작이 화란어라는 울타리에 갇혀있다가, 최근에 영어로 완역이 되고, 그 영역본에 근거하여 마침내 한역본도 출간이 되었다. 이러한 대작의 출간으로 말미암아 한국에서도 나더러 레포르마찌에 대한 연구가 보다 더 활성화되어질 것으로 사료되어진다. 한역본의 출간을 기념하여 본고에서는 아직 국내에서는 연구가 이루어지지 않은 빌헬무스 아 브라컬과 그의 주저에 대하여 학술적으로 소개하려고 시도했다. 먼저는 빌헬무스 아 브라컬의 생애와 역사적 배경에 대해서 소개하고(Ⅱ), 이어서 『그리스도인의 합당한 예배』의 출판경위, 번역 역사, 그리고 특징등에 대해서 간추려 보았다(Ⅲ). 아 브라컬은 8년간 개혁신학을 공부한 후에, 49년 동안 목회에 전념한 목회자로서 목회 만년에 『그리스도인의 합당한 예배』를 저술하였다. 이러한 역사적 배경을 이해할 때에 우리는 본서의 실천적 특징들을 잘 이해할 수가 있게 된다. 그리고 그러한 성격 때문에 화란에서는 『그리스도인의 합당한 예배』가 꾸준히 읽혀져 왔던 것이다. 우리는 아 브라컬의 본서를 읽고 연구함을 통하여 경건과 학식의 조화라고 하는 나더러 레포르마찌의 이상을 분명하게 파악하며, 한국의 개혁주의자들이 나아가야 할 길을 확인할 수 있을 것이라고 생각한다.

영문 초록

At the end of 2019, Wilhelmus à Brakel’s The Christian Reasonable Service (4vols.) was translated into Korean. À Brakel was the most popular author of renowned Dutch theologians and pastors who worked during the Nadere Reformatie period. The Christian Reasonable Service served as a practical dogmatics that had been read popularly even its being no longer available from the publisher for 320 years. However, this important book was confined within the linguistic limits of Dutch. It was a recent development for the book to be translated into English which resulted in the publication into Korean. The publication of this masterpiece is expected to boost the research on Nadere Reformatie in Korea. In commemoration of the publication of the Korean version, this paper attempted to provide an academic introduction to Wilhelmus à Brakel and his opus magnum, which has not yet been studied in Korea. First, I introduced the life and historical background of Wilhelmus à Brakel (Ⅱ) and then presented the history of publication, translation history, and the main features of the Christian Reasonable Service (Ⅲ). After studying Reformed Theology for eight years, À Brakel had served as a pastor for 49 years and wrote The Christian Reasonable Service in his later years. Given this historical background, it helps us understand the practical features of this book. And because of the practical nature, The Christian Reasonable Service has been steadily read in the Netherlands even nowadays. By reading and studying the text of à Brakel, we can clearly see the ideal of Nadere Reformatie: the harmony of godliness and learning. I believe this study will also help us find a way to enrich the next generation.
