국문 초록

이 글은 북한문학에 대한 학지가 어떤 맥락과 입장에서 형성되었는지, 더불어 그 내용의 핵심적 문제점은 무엇인지를 개괄하려는 것이다. 북한문학은 북한의 문학이지만 또 한국근대문학의 흐름에 이어진 것이다. 따라서 북한문학 연구는 북한체제와의 특별한 관계 속에서 읽어야하는 것인 동시에 문학사적인 독해를 필요로 하는 것이다. 북한문학에의 관심은 월북 작가 및 비평가들의 행적과 월북이후의 활동을 뒤좇으려는 ‘복원’의 의지에 의해 추동되었다. 북한문학에 대한 ‘객관적 연구’에 흔히 앞섰던 것은 민족적 동질성을 확보해야 한다는 ‘명령’이었다. 북한문학에 대한 민족적 접근은 종종‘진보적 민족문학’의 내용을 규정하는 방식으로 이루어졌다. 그러나 주체시대에 들어 부각되는 항일혁명문예를 어떻게 평가하느냐는 민족적 통합을 전망하는 일이 간단치 않음을 일깨웠다. 왜냐하면 항일혁명문예는 특별한 주권권력을 공고하게 하는 과정에서 발굴/고안된 것이었기 때문이다. 북한체제, 혹은 그 이념 및 관료적 통제와의 관련 속에서 북한문학을 역사적으로 탐구하는 일은 여전히 필요해 보인다. 특히 북한문학의 경우 원전과 개정 과정을 확인하는 작업의 중요성은 강조되어야 한다. 북한문학의 독해가 그 외연을 넓히고 이렇게 저렇게 탐색의 깊이를 더할 때 문학적 보편성의 규명 역시 가능할 것이다.

영문 초록

The aim of this article is to outline in what context and position the study on North Korean literature was formed, and what are the main problems of its contents. North Korean literature is literature in North Korea’s political system, but it is connected to the stream of modern Korean literature since colonial period. Therefore, North Korean literature is to be read in a special relationship with the North Korean political system, and at the same time, it requires literary and historical reading. Interest in North Korean literature was driven by the will to restore the activities of writers and critics who defected to North Korea. What often preceded the objective study on North Korean literature was the mandate of securing national homogeneity. The national approach to North Korean literature has often been made in a way that defines the content of progressive national literature. However, how to evaluate the anti-Japanese revolutionary literature that emerged in the Juche era reminded us that the prospect of national integration was not simple. This is because the anti-Japanese revolutionary literature was discovered/designed in the process of solidifying special sovereign power. There is still a need to historically explore North Korean literature in relation to the North Korean regime or its ideology and bureaucratic control. Especially in the case of North Korean literature, the importance of checking the original edition and the revision process should be emphasized. As reading of North Korean literature expands its margins and adds such depth of research, it will be possible to investigate literary universality.
