국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생의 self-authorship의 성장과 발달에 촉진 효과를 미칠 수 있는 교양교육 프로그램의 개발과 지도방법을 모색하기 위한 연구로써, 성찰적 글쓰기 활동의 효과적인 지도를 통해 그 목적을 성취하고자 한다. 성인기의 인지적·정서적 발달 개념인 self-authorship은 이미 북미에서 활발하게 논의되고 있으나 국내에서는 아직 적절한 학문적 용어로 번역되지 않은 상황이며, 학문적 논의와 연구 활동이 미흡한 시점이다. Self-authorship은 성인이 인생 전반에서 직면하는 다양한 도전적 상황과 문제들을 해결하고 이겨나가는데 필요한 내적 능력을 의미한다. 성인기의 인생을 설계하고 자아실현을 해 나가는 과정에서 크고 작은 어려움을 경험하게 될 성인 초기의 대학생들에게 self-authorship의 성장과 발달의 촉진은 개인의 성취를 자극하고 삶의 만족을 높이는데 견고한 기반이 될 수 있다. 연구자들은 서울 소재 여자대학에서 성찰적 글쓰기 활동을 포함하여 운영되고 있는 교양필수 교과목을 수강하는 학생들 중 자발적으로 심층면접에 참여한 33명의 학생들을 대상으로 이러한 교육활동이 참여자들의 self-authorship 발달에 촉진적인 효과를 미쳤는지 여부와 그 과정에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인들을 탐색했다. 연구자료 수집 방법으로 사용된 심층면접은 성찰적 글쓰기 활동에 대한 참여자들의 인식을 탐색했다. 더불어 참여자들이 작성한 성찰적 글쓰기 산물을 문서 분석하여 과제 수행 중에 참여자가 경험한 비판적 성찰의 깊이와 self-authorship 발달의 증거를 탐색했다. 성찰적 글쓰기 활동이 참여자의 self-authorship의 성장과 발달에 어떤 변화를 가져왔는지를 탐색하기 위한 보조적인 방법으로 글쓰기 활동이 시작되기 전과 종료된 후에 반복적으로 self-authorship 설문지를 실시했다. 연구 결과는 성찰적 글쓰기 활동이 참여자들에게 비판적 성찰의 기회를 제공했고, 깊이 있는 비판적 사고에 몰입한 참여자들에게서 self-authorship 수준의 긍정적 변화를 확인했다. 그 과정에 긍정적 또는 부정적 영향을 미친 요인들의 탐색은 유사한 목적을 띄고 있는 교양교육 프로그램의 디자인, 실행 및 평가 방법에 있어 의미 있는 시사점을 제공하였다. 본 연구는 서울에 위치한 여자대학의 재학생을 대상으로 실행되어 그 결과의 일반화가 제한적이므로 다양한 연령대와 전공, 그리고 남학생을 포함한 참여자 그룹을 접근하여 후속연구를 실행할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

While the literature on self-authorship has illuminated how pedagogical efforts can facilitate college students’ self-authorship (e.g., Baxter Magolda, 2001, 2003, 2004), we hardly know about how this developmental concept can be promoted in Korean context. The concept of self-authorship is articulated as the foundation of many modern life demands that adults should successfully achieve. For college students, self-authorship is related to their internal capability that meets specific challenges they may encounter in their present college lives and future career. Research participants were found in a large women s university in Seoul. Research data were drawn from 33 voluntary participants who were taking mandatory general study course I or II for a semester. This study explores how the reflective writing program affected college students’ self-authorship development during a semester and what factors make a difference throughout the whole processes. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in order to explore participants’ reflective writing experiences. Participants’ reflective writing products were analyzed in order to examine the quality of critical reflection that participants involved in the writing process. Self-authorship survey was conducted before and after the reflective writing program. Findings indicate that the reflective writing program stimulated participants’ critical reflection that is conducive to their self-authorship development. In addition, influential factors that may facilitate or hider critical reflection have been illuminated. The implication of the study lies in the potential to guide the design, implementation, and evaluation of similar liberal education programs that aim to facilitate college students’ self-authorship development. The current study is expected to stimulate further research on self-authorship development across different settings that include both genders, different age groups, and a variety of majors found in higher education.
