건축사적 측면에서 본 미륵사의 세계유산적 가치

국문 초록

백제 古都로서 익산은 당시의 포괄적 문화중심적 성격을 내포하고 있으며, 역사유적지구 내의 종교적 역할로 서 미륵사지는 백제의 영향력과 사회상을 파악할 수 있는 중요한 위치를 가진다. 현재 익산지구에 대한 고고학, 인문, 역사, 지리 등의 다양한 측면에서의 지속적인 연구가 이뤄지고 있으며, 현재 주변에 남아 있는 미륵사지, 왕궁리유적, 관방유적 등은 문화사적인 측면에서 문화의 흐름과 보편적 특징을 고려하였을 때 백제의 고도로서 뚜렷한 특징을 보이고 있다. 그러므로 이러한 연구들을 바탕으로 백제고도에서 미륵사가 차지하는 위치와 역할 이 무엇이었으며, 독창적 특징, 고대 탑파에서 차지하는 위상, 가람배치의 적용과 발전, 건축적 특징 등에 대하여 당대 주변국에서 보이는 형식과 특징을 비교분석함으로써 미륵사만의 내재적 특징을 연계 고찰하고자 하였다. 미륵사지는 7세기 백제의 유산으로서 백제 문화유산의 우수성과 특징을 설명할 수 있는 중심적 위치에 있다. 미륵사지 탑은 한국 불탑양식의 주류를 형성하는 시발점이 되고 있으며, 양식전개라는 차원에서 백제의 가람양 식 변화와 함께 목탑에서 석탑으로의 번안과정에서 보이는 석탑의 목조건축적 표현은 불교문화권 어디에서도 비슷한 유례를 찾을 수 없는 창의적인 것이다. 또한 지역적 특수성과 역사적 사실의 재현공간이라는 차원에서 지금도 그 웅장하고 화려했던 모습을 충분히 유추할 수 있으며, 7세기 백제의 중심지로서 동아시아 문화전파의 허브역할을 담당한 중요성은 뛰어난 보편적 가치 기준으로서 미륵사지 유적의 세계문화유산적 의미를 돋보이게 한다. 본고에서는 미륵사의 세계유산적 가치를 규명하기 위해 유네스코의 세계유산 평가기준 항목별 충족여건으로 미륵사만의 건축사적 가치인식을 위한 사료 검토와 미륵사 조영의 의미, 문화중심지로서의 중요성, 가람의 배치 와 조영특징에 따른 구조적 성격과 우수성, 동아시아 건축에서 차지하는 내·외재적 성격에 대하여 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 백제건축의 독창성과 불국토를 실현하고자 한 정신세계는 역사유적의 진정성과 완전성을 확보하는데 있어 필수적 요소라 생각된다.

영문 초록

Historic ruins of Iksan district, has appeared the character as an advanced civilization of the Baek-je Dynasty and it is on the important position with religious roll, shown influence and social work of Baek-je Dynasty. The study is going on the diversity aspects of archeology, humanity, history and geography so and forth around Iksan-si district, Mireuksa, Wanggungli ruins, fortressed remains have the definite characters in the cultural side, in regard to the passage of the culture and the universal feature. This study is to connect to immanent features of Mireuksa, comparing neighbouring countries about what are the position and roll of Mireuksa, unique peculiarities, the statues about ancient pagodas, building layout development and structural feature, etc. Mireuksa, the one of the 7th heritage pagodas in Baek-je Dynasty, is centrality to explain the high culture heritages and features of the era. This pagoda did not only started the mainstream of Korean Pagoda formation, but it has been most creative stone one with wooden structural formation, and nowhere else during the developing time of style when wooden pagoda adapted to stoned material in the temple of Baek-je. Mireuksa is good enough to inference the magnificence and luxuriance with distinct characteristics of the area and re-enacting the history, the important point which had a key part the cultural hub of 7th Baek-je is stand out as World Heritage Site Mireuksa in common sense. In order to investigate the worth of World Heritage Site Mireuksa , the study reports the historical review up to the structural character and superiority and the inner and external characters in East Asia according to a meaning of building, the importance as cultural center, temple placement and erecting feature as well as awareness of architectural worth. Through the study, the spiritual world which was going to make the Philosophy of Temple Structure is one of the most vital elements to keep the authenticity and integrity the historic heritages.
