국문 초록

본 논문은 콜레주 드 프랑스(Collège de France)에 소장된 『天下諸國圖』를 연구한 것이다. 본문에서는 먼저, 이 지도가 조선에서 콜레주 드 프랑스로 들어가게 된 경로를 살펴보았다. 이 지도는 19세기말에 한국에서 활동한 학자인 모리스 꾸랑(Maurice Courant, 1865~1935)이 구입하여 프랑스로 돌아갈 때 가져간 것이며 꾸랑 사후에 콜레주 드 프랑스로 이전되었다. 두 번째로는, 지도 자체의 내용 체제와 구성을 살펴보았다. 이 지도의 특징은 18세기의 상세한 경제, 군사, 인구의 통계자료의 수록과 백두산정계의 사실을 그리고 있는 ｢壬辰穆(克登)胡定界時所模｣지도가 있다는 점이다. 세번째로는, 이 지도의 구성과 내용상 유사성을 보이는 규장각 소장 『輿地圖』와 비교 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 두 지도는 동일한 내용과 체제이면서도 지도 및 지명의 배열이 상이하다는 점과 이는 의도된 편집의 결과라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 두 지도 사이에 상호 연관관계가 있다는 실제적 증거를 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

In this article I examine Ch’ŏnhajegukto, the colored hand-written map in old Korean books collection from the Collège de France library. Firstly, I explore a route the map took from Chosŏn to the Collège de France. The map was bought by Maurice Courant(1865~1935) during his administrative service in Chosŏn in the late 19th century and went to France with the rest of Courant’s books collection. After Courant death the part of his collection, including Ch’ŏnhajegukto, went to the Collège de France library. Secondly, I introduce structure and contents of the Ch’ŏnhajegukto. The significant feature of this map is inclusion of statistic data about economy, army and population in 18th century Chosŏn. Also the map consists of a rare valuable map called Imjinmokhoj̆onggyesisomo, which demonstrates the Border Monument on Mt. Paektu. The Ch’ŏnhajegukto is very similar to Yŏjido the map from Kyujanggak collection. Thereby, in the third section I conduct comparative analysis of these two maps. Ch’ŏnhajegukto and Yŏjido are equal in the contents and the structure; however they have differences in the arrangement of maps and the name of the places. This analysis also reveals that these differences between two maps were the results of deliberate process of editing and provides concrete evidence of a relation between Ch’ŏnhajegukto and Yŏjido.
