국문 초록

본고는 성리학 이념과 실학의 성격을 사학사적 관점에서 살펴본 글이다. 성리학의 도입과정과 조선전기 사회에서 성리학의 성격을 살폈다. 조선전기에는 제도를 정비하는 과정에서 성리학만이 아니라 다양한 학문이 활용되었음을 논했다.(1장) 조선후기에 성리학의 토착화 과정을 살폈다. 그리고 조선후기 성리학 이념의 특성을 살폈다. 성리학은 윤리에 충실한 실천적 도덕 사회를 이룩하였고, 열렬한 독서문화를 일으켰다. 성리학은 다른 학문을 이단으로 취급함으로써 학문적 폐쇄성을 가졌다. 성리학은 학문적으로 만이 아니리 양반들의 생활윤리를 규제함으로써 왕조를 유지하는 이념이 되었다.(2장) 실학의 개념은 ‘조선후기의 새로운 학문과 학풍’이라는 역사적 용어로 사용함을 논했다. 실학의 성격에서는 실학과 성리학과의 관련성, 실학의 종래 분류방식을 검토했다. ‘실학의 유형’으로 새로운 가설을 제시하였다. 영문 초록

This article examines about the characteristics of Neo-Confucianism and Sillhak under the point of historiography. When it comes to adopting Neo-Confucianism in the early Choson period, the government and elites made use of diverse ideas for founding their institutes including it. This Neo-Confucian idea became indigenous concept in late period, as scholars and government officials developed their own concepts based on the Zhu Xi school of Neo-Confucianism. Moral philosophy is the highlight idea of the concept, and they establish moral society around 16th century, focusing on reading centered culture. Neo-Confucian scholars, however, embraced orthodox Neo-Confucianism and they excluded other doctrines: they appointed new ideologies as an heretical ideas. Even though this doctrine took a key role to build a stable monarchy and society, some scholars argue that critical ideas and evaluative analysis about Neo-Confucianism were come on stage from 18th century. This new approach is defined as Silhak, one of the main achievements of the contemporary Korean historical research, and this Silhak concept is accepted as an academic term. The main feature of this term is a new academic movement dealing with the paradox of social system. In the last part of this article, it is surveyed that relation between Silhak and Neo-Confucianism, classification of the Silhak schools, and then it suggests that feasible analysing scope for a new definition plan.
