국문 초록

본 연구는 사회적 책임활동이 금융기관의 배당정책에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 함이 목적이다. 또한 적극적인 사회적 책임활동을 한 금융기관과 그렇지 않은 금융기관의 배당지급액은 차이가 있을 것으로 예상하고 차별성을 추정하였다. 경실련 산하 경제정의연구소에서 사회적 책임활동이 우수하다고 발표한 200개 기업 중 금융업만을 분석대상으로 한다. 분석방법은 오차항의 자기상관 문제를 고려하여 확률효과모형으로 가설을 검증하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사회적 책임활동 우수기업으로 경제정의지수 200대 기업에 선정된 금융기관과 그렇지 않는 금융기관의 배당지급액의 차이가 있는지 분석한 결과 차별성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 적극적인 사회적 책임활동을 하여 200대 기업에 선정된 금융기관의 배당지급액이 더 큰 것으로 추정되었다. 둘째, 사회적 책임지수와 배당지급액 간의 관계를 추정한 결과 금융기관의 사회적 책임활동지수가 높을수록 배당지급액이 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 즉 사회적 책임활동과 배당정책이 연관성이 있으며, 사회적 책임활동 강화가 주주가치 극대화에 기여할 수 있음을 검증한 것이다. 본 연구는 대리인이론의 관점에서 사회적 책임활동 강화와 더불어 배당지급을 늘림으로써 대리인비용을 감소시키고, 배당정책을 통해 주주가치를 극대화하고자 한다는 긍정적인 정보를 시장에 전달하려는 유인이 작용한다는 것을 검증한 것에 의의가 있다. 금융기관의 사회적 책임활동과 배당정책과의 관계를 검증한 것은 기존연구와 차별성을 가지며, 분석결과는 금융기관의 재무의사결정에 중요한 정보로 작용할 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of social responsibility activities on dividend policy of financial institutions. In addition, the difference in the dividend between financial institutions with active social responsibility activities and those without them was estimated with the assumption that there would be difference. The analysis was limited to financial industries among the 200 companies whose social responsibility activities were reported to be excellent by the Social Justice Institute. As for the analysis method, the hypothesis was verified by random effects generalized linear square (GLS) considering the autocorrelation problem of error terms. The analysis results are as follows. First, as a result of analysis, it was found there is difference in dividend payments between financial institutions selected as the top 200 companies in the economic justice index and those not. Second, it was found that the higher the social responsibility index of financial institutions, the larger the dividend payout. This study is meaningful in that it verified the incentives to reduce the agency cost by increasing dividend payouts and to maximize the shareholder value through dividend. policy. The results of the analysis are expected to provide important information for financial decision making in the financial institutions.
