명암 대비, 그러데이션, 입체화와 음영의 유닛 반복 조형과 시각적 효과

국문 초록

본고는 유닛 반복 조형에 대한 이론적 검토를 바탕으로 명암 대비, 그러데이션, 입체화와 음영처리 등의 조건을 부여해 각각의 유닛을 개발하고, 이들 단위형태의 반복을 통해 네 가지 시각적 효과(외형 착시, 중간 형태, 리듬감, 연속성)가 상승하는지 인상평가를 통해 확인했다. 결과적으로 명암 대비의 유닛들은 규칙적 배치에 의해 연결성, 리듬감, 중간 형태 등이 용이하게 인식되며, 불규칙적 배치에서는 외형 착시 효과가 상승했다. 입체화에 의한 음영의 유닛들 역시 명암 대비와 유사한 현상을 나타냈고, 특히 동일한 유닛이라도 조명의 방향에 따라 시각적 인상이 달라지기 때문에 하나의 형상으로 다양한 시각적 표현이 가능하다는 메리트가 있다. 한편, 그러데이션 유닛은 명암 대비나 음영효과와는 상반되는 현상을 보여 결국 이들과는 다른 차원의 시각적 효과를 가질 개연성을 시사했다. 결국 본고에서 개발한 유닛과 이의 반복을 통해 얻어지는 네 가지 시각적 효과는 통일과 변화가 겸비된 미학적 질서라고 할 수 있고, 특히 입체유닛의 음영처리를 통해 기하학적 형태에서 올 수 있는 경직된 리듬감을 자유롭게 변화시키는 등 시각적 효과를 다양하게 조절할 수 있다는 측면에서 교육적 매체나 수법으로도 유효하다고 사료된다.

영문 초록

This dissertation granted the conditions of light & shade contrast, gradation, stereogram & shade treatment on the basis of theoretic review on unit repetition sculpture to develop their respective unit and checked whether 4 types of visual effects (external optical illusion, medium form, rhythm, continuity) rose through repetition of such unit form by evaluating appearances. Consequently, concerning the units of light & shade contrast, continuity, rhythm, medium form, etc were easily recognized by regular layout. The effect of external optical illusion was intensified in the irregular layout. The units of shade by stereogram also showed phenomenon similar to that of light & shade contrast. The merit is that diverse visual expressions are possible with 1 shape, especially because visual appearance varies depending on the direction of lighting even with same unit. Meanwhile, gradation unit showed phenomenon opposite to that of light & shade contrast or shade effect, suggesting probability of visual effect whose dimension is different from theirs. In the long run, 4 kinds of visual effect acquired through unit developed in this dissertation and its repetition can be said to be aesthetic order equipped with unification & change. It seems that they are effective as educational media or method, especially in that visual effect can be diversely controlled, e.g., the rigid rhythm which can be caused by geometric form through treatment of shade of cubic unit is freely changed.
