<코레아의 신부> 공연과 대본 사료 고찰

국문 초록

【초록】1897년 5월 22일, 오스트리아의 빈 궁정오페라하우스에서는 발레 <코레아의 신부>(4막 9장)가 초연되었다. 하인리히 레겔이 대본을 구성하고, 궁정 작곡가인 요제프 바이어가 작곡하고, 발레 마스터인 요제프 하스라이터가 연출한 이 작품은 관객과 평단의 호응에 힘입어 1901년까지 5년 동안 장기 공연되었다. 그러나 그 이후 <코레아의 신부>는 기울어가는 조선의 운명과 함께 세인들의 기억에서 멀어져 갔다. 그렇게 잊힌 채로 오랜 세월 사장되었던 공연 사료들(발레 텍스트, 악곡 총보, 비평 등)이 2012년에 한 연구자의 노력에 의해 발굴되었다. 발굴 소식이 국내에 전해지자 국립발레단은 즉각 복원 공연 계획을 세우고, 2014년 6월에 시범 공연을 거쳐 10월에 정식 공연을 가지기로 하였다. 그러던 것이 2014년 2월에 새로운 단장이 부임해오면서 의욕적으로 추진해오던 복원 공연 계획이 전격 취소되기에 이른다. 발굴 이후 면밀한 연구 과정을 거치지 못 한 점과, 안무와 관련한 구체적 정보도 알려진 바 없는 상황에서 서둘러 복원 공연을 추진하는 것은 무리가 따를 수밖에 없다는 것이 표면적인 이유였다. 본 연구는 이러한 고민에 동의하면서 <코레아의 신부>가 안고 있는 대본 상의 본질적인 한계를 고찰하고, 그것을 극복할 수 있는 방안들을 모색하고자 하였다. 그 결과 발레 텍스트에는 19세기말 유럽인들의 시각에 의해 타자화된 조선(Korea)의 현실이 반영되어있으며, 내러티브의 도입, 위기, 절정, 전환의 과정들이 판타지적 발상에 의해 전개됨으로써 극적 개연성을 떨어트리는 한계가 있음을 고찰하였다. 나아가 그러한 문제점들을 극복할 수 있는 극작 방안들을 나름대로 제시함으로써 성공적인 복원 공연에 조금이나마 기여하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

On May 22, 1897, Ballet (act 4, scene 9) premiered at Wiener Hofoper, Austria. The ballet text was written by Heinrich Regel, composed by court composer Josef Bayer, and directed by ballet master Josef Hassreiter. It was performed for a long period of five years until 1901, supported by audience and critics. However, Since then, has moved away from people s memories with the destiny of Joseon Dynasty. Performance materials that had been forgotten for many years (libletto, partitur, criticism, etc.) were discovered in 2012 by a researcher s efforts. When the excavation news was delivered to Korea, the National Ballet Team immediately planned a restoration performance, and decided to have a formal performance in October after a pilot performance in June 2014, But, with the introduction of a new manager in February 2014, the revival plan, which was motivated, was canceled. The superficial reason was that hurrying up promotion of restoration performances will have problems in the absence of detailed research process and specific information of choreography after the discovery.In agreement with these concerns, this study examined the inherent limitations in the text of < and tried to find ways to overcome it. As a result, It was analyzed that the ballet text reflected the situation of Korea, which was distorted by Europeans in the late 19th century and as the processes-introduction, crisis, climax, and turning of narrative are developed by fantasy ideas, there is a limit that reduces the dramatic probability. Furthermore, it attempted to contribute a little for the successful restoration performance by presenting its own dramaturge measures to overcome such problems.
