국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 1930년대 한국 대중음악의 대표적인 네 가지 갈래 중 하나인 재즈송을 통해 모던세대의 양가감정 표출 방식을 살펴보는 데에 있다. 선행연구와 현재 남아있는 문헌 정보를 토대로 현재 남아있는 재즈송을 분류하였고, 이 중 양가감정과 관련된 소재인 술을 중심으로 한 곡들을 선별하여 연구를 진행하였다. 당시 서양의 음악을 총칭하던 재즈송의 주 소비층은 모던세대이다. 조선의 근대화와 함께 등장한 신세대인 모던세대는 서구의 문물을 동경하고 소비했다. 대중음악은 상류층이 아닌 대중을 위한 음악이며 특히 대중음악에 있어 가사에 담긴 메시지는 사회 구성원들과 공유되는 것이므로 이는 주 소비층에 대한 정서와 당시의 시대상이 그대로 반영되어 있다고 볼 수 있다. 당시 재즈송에는 향락적인 도시의 소비문화를 대변하며, 내면이 아닌 외면에 치중하던 모던세대의 모습이 고스란히 담겨있다. 하지만 그 향락성의 기저에는 식민지라는 시대적 한계에서 오는 허무주의, 애상성, 우울감이 담겨있었고 모던세대는 이 같은 상실감과 현실 도피의 정서적 표출 도구로 종종 술을 이용하였음을 볼 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 모던세대가 양가감정을 표출하는 수단으로써 술을 소재로 한 여러 재즈송을 애창하고 이를 향유하였음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to look at the ways of expressing ambivalence in modern generation through the jazz song, one of the branches representing the Korean popular music in the 1930s. This study classified the remaining jazz songs based on the preceding studies and remaining literature. Among which, it selected one song that involved alcohol, the material related to ambivalence for the study. The main consumer of jazz song, generic term of then-western music was modern generation. The modern generation, which appeared with the modernization of Chosun yearned for the products of western civilization and consumed them. Popular music is the music for the public rather than for the high class and especially in the popular music, lyrics are shared with the society members and so the emotion of consumers and the phases of the times are reflected here. Jazz song contains the lifestyles of modern generation who consumed pleasure-seeking urban consumer culture and focused on the appearance rather than the inner beauty. But nihilism, sorrow, and depression coming from the limit of the times, colonial era underlie the hedonism. Modern generation used alcohol as a tool for expressing the sense of loss that often occurred and simultaneously used it as a means to forget the reality. Therefore, this writing considers the ways of expressing ambivalence in modern generation through jazz songs that were created centering on alcohol as material.
