초기 청소년의 그릿 유형 예측요인 및 그릿 유형에 따른 몰입, 자기통제, 성실성의 차이

국문 초록

본 연구는 영재성의 주요 요소인 과제집착력과 밀접하게 관련된 그릿의 두 가지 구성 요소인 끈기와 흥미유지의 높고 낮음에 따라 우리나라 청소년에게 나타나는 그릿 유형을 파악하고, 이를 예측하는 가정·학교환경 요인을 확인하고자 하는 목적으로 수행되었다. 또한, 그릿 유형이 청소년의 몰입, 자기통제, 성실성 등 성취관련 변인과 어떠한 관계를 보이 는지 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 4개 중학교 3학년 학생 617명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 자료를 분석하였으며 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 끈기와 흥미유지의 수준에 따라 청소년의 그릿 유형은 6개로 추출되었으며, 청소년은 각 유형에 대체로 고르게 분포 되어 있었다. 둘째, 그릿 유형을 유의하게 예측하는 가정환경 요인은 ‘문화적 자본’과 ‘새롭고 다양한 경험 권장’이며, 학교환경 요인은 ‘친구지지와 즐거운 반 분위기’, ‘엄격한 규칙과 지시적인 분위기’로 나타났다. 셋째, 6개의 그릿 유형에 따라 청소년의 몰입, 자기통제, 성실성이 다르게 나타났다. 즉, 그릿이 높을수록 몰입, 자기통제, 성실성이 높게 나타났는 데, 몰입은 끈기와 더 밀접한 관련을 보이는 반면 자기통제는 흥미유지와 더 관련이 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 몰입, 자기통제, 성실성 등 청소년 및 영재의 높은 성취와 직접적으로 관련된 특성의 주요 예측변인으로서 그릿 증진을 위한 교육적 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the types of adolescents’ grit, which closely related to task commitment as one of the main components for giftedness, based on the level of grit’s two components, perseverance of effort and consistency of interest, and explored the home and school environmental factors which predicted those types. In addition, it examined the relations of grit types to adolescents’ achievement-related variables such as flow, self-control, and conscientiousness. For those purposes, the survey data from 617 third graders in four middles schools was analyzed. Main results are as follows. First, six types of grit were extracted and the distribution of adolescents among different types was quite even. Second, home environmental predictors of grit types included ‘cultural capital’ and ‘encouragement of new and arious experience’ while school environmental predictors were ‘peer support and joyful class environment’ and ‘strict rule and directive class environment.’ Third, adolescents’ flow, self-control, and conscientiousness were different according to six grit types. That is, one’s flow, self-control, and conscientiousness were higher, as his or her grit was higher. More specifically, flow related more to perseverance of effort while self-control related more to consistency of interest. These results provided educational implications for adolescents as well as gifted students that their grit should be improved because this would lead to higher achievement-related characteristics including flow, self-control, and conscientiousness.
