<家箴>편에 투영된 송암의 가족윤리 의식

국문 초록

송암 권호문에 대한 연구는 시와 시가가 대부분이다. 그래서 본고에서는 송암이 지은 <家箴>편을 통해 송암이 족에 대한 애정과 관직에 나가지 않고 산림에 은거한 처사로서 가지고 있는 윤리의식을 중점적으로 들여다보았다. <가잠>편은 송암의 말년에 해당하는 53세에 지은 것으로 자제들에게 삼강오륜을 잘 실천하여 도덕 수양을 함양하고 나아가 국정에 베풀 수 있도록 하라는 경계와 권고의 내용이 들어 있다. 송암은 여기에 부부지도, 부자지도, 형제지도, 사노비, 봉제사, 목족린의 6가지 주제로 나누고 각 항목에 맞는 고사나 경전의 설명을 초록하였다. 그런 뒤에 잠의 형식에 맞는 4언의 율문을 ‘家箴跋’이라고 제목을 붙여 맨 마지막에 싣고 있다. 본고는 잠의 형식을 빌려 자제들에게 경계하고 권고하는 말이 송암이 가지고 있는 가족윤리 의식이라고 생각하고 그가 남긴 시나 만시, 제문, 묘지명 등을 함께 살펴 그의 윤리 의식이 발로된 지점과 실천적 태도를 들여다보았다. 그 결과 송암은 유교사회의 근본이 되는 오륜을 힘써 지키고 실천하였고, 가족 혹은 가문 안에서 그가 옳다고 여기는 윤리를 준수하고 살았음을 여러 글을 통해 볼 수 있었다. 이런 윤리의식은 유자들이 조선 사회를 이끌어가면서 내세운 기본 정신이기 때문에 송암만의 특장점이 될 수는 없다. 그렇지만 그것을 어떻게 지키고 실천하느냐 하는 것은 개인의 도덕수양에 달려 있는 일이기에 그런 점에서 송암은 도덕적 윤리의식이 뛰어난 사람이었다고 말할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Most of the studies about Songam, pseudonym of Homun Gwon, concentrated on his poems and verses. This study examined Songam s affection for his family and family ethics as a Confucian scholar who secluded himself in a mountain hermitage without going into public service. At the age of 53, Songam wrote Family Disciplines, which gave warnings and advice to his children, nephews and nieces in order to practice Confucian ethical principles in three fundamental bonds and in five human relationships, to cultivate moral disciplines, and to apply them in national affairs. Songam wrote about six subjects such as ethics between husband and wife, duties between father and son, principles between siblings, private slaves and servants, memorial services for deceased ancestors, and harmony with relatives and neighbors. He abstracted each item into a suitable idiom and added an epilogue in four metrical syllables suitable for maxims or proverbs. This study examined Songnam’s poems, mourning poems, memorial service speeches, and epitaphs, and investigated the point of departure for his ethical philosophy and practice. The results show that Songam followed and practiced ethical principles in five human relationships on which the confucian society was based, and that he kept the ethics that he thought to be right in his family life. Such an ethical awareness of his was within the basic spiritual principles that Confucian scholars insisted on while leading the Joseon society and his personal training and practice of the principles attest to his own characteristic merit.
