고려 내투 발해인들의 처치 지역 검토 -고려시기 유적 출토 발해계 막새기와를 중심으로-

국문 초록

이글은 고려를 찾은 내투 발해인들이 고려 사회에 어떻게 정착해 나갔는지 해명되지 못한 주제를 문헌 기록과 고고학 발굴 자료를 활용하여 규명하려는 글이다. 고려 전기에 내투 발해인들이 처치(處置, 處地)됐다고 추정되는 지역을 문헌 기록과 고려-거란 전쟁간 확인되는 ‘발해항호’를 근거로 추정해보았다. 내투 발해인들의 입장에서는 새로운 정착지가 필요했고, 고려 정부의 입장에서는 이들의 정착을 안정적으로 유도하면서, 정세가 불안정했던 북방에 대비할 필요가 있었다. 반면 고려가 거란의 침략을 격퇴하고 안정을 구가하기 시작한 현종대 후반부터는 발해인뿐 아니라 이종족 내투자들 모두 한반도 중부 이남에 배치했을 것으로 추정하였다. 한편 요나라 시기 유적에서 출토된 연화문 수막새와 고려시기 유적에서 출토된 연화문 수막새를 발해 상경성 출토 연화문 수막새와 비교, 검토하였다. 그 결과 안양사지 와 원지동 원지(院址) 에서 출토된 연화문 수막새가 요나라 시기의 유적에서 출토된 연화문 수막새와 흡사하고, 발해시기 상경성에서 출토된 연화문 수막새의 문화적 요소(모티프)를 계승하고 있음을 제시하였다. 당시 안양사가 고려 왕실과 매우 밀접했다는 사실, 원지동 원지 역시 원(院)의 시대적 성격상 고려 조정의 끊임없는 관리가 필요했다는 점에서 내투 발해인들과의 연관성을 높게 추정하였다.

영문 초록

Examined in this article is how the Balhae refugees -who came to Goryeo- managed to settle down on the Korean peninsula. Due to only scarce records surviving the passage of time, the issue is yet to be fully explored. I tried to utilize existing records and recently announced archaeological findings. In the early half of the Goryeo period, there are only one or two references to the whereabouts of the Balhae refugees after they entered the Goryeo realm. Yet references to the so-called ‘surrendered Balhae households,’ which can be found in records documenting the aftermath of the Goryeo-Khitan war, suggests certain possible locations that would have become their eventual settlements and satisfied the needs of both sides, which needed a place to live (Balhae refugees) and had a border to defend (the Goryeo government). Then later on, when Goryeo was able to successfully fend off Khitan’s further invasions and restore stability to the people’s lives, since the later periods of king Hyeonjong’s reign to be exact, all the foreign tribal refugees -including the Balhae ones- seemed like they were relocated to more southern locations on the Korean peninsula. Meanwhile, I also tried to make a comparison between certain lotus-patterned Sumaksae tiles found in various regions. When compared with the lotus-patterned Sumaksae relics excavated from vestiges that belong to the Khitan Liao period as well as Goryeo, relic from the Balhae dynasty’s Sang’gyeong-seong capital vestige reveals some striking similarities. For example, the lotus-patterned Sumaksae tiles found from vestiges of the Buddhist monastery An’yang-sa and the Weon(院) facility at Weonji-dong (both in Goryeo) resemble certain features of the ones found from the Liao-period vestiges, while they seem to have inherited certain cultural motifs from the Balhae ones as well. Considering the fact that An’yang-sa had a close relationship with the Goryeo royal family, we can see that the Balhae culture infiltrated the highest level of Goryeo culture as well.
