광기의 탈-식민화: 파농과 라캉

국문 초록

이 논문은 라캉을 통해 파농을 읽고 탈-식민주체화의 가능성을 이론화하는 것을 목표로 한다. 헤겔과 라캉을 통해 파농은 인종의 변증법을 발전시키면서 인종이론을 정립하고자 했다. 물론 이런 파농의 시도는 성공적이었다기보다 여러 가지 문 제점을 남기면서 끝났다고 판단할 수 있지만, 이 시도에 잠재한 탈-식민 주체에 대한 탐구는 라캉의 이론을 통해 거듭 태어날 수 있다는 것이 이 논문의 전제이다. 이 논문은 “흑인 영혼은 백인의 발명품”이라는 파농의 진술을 라캉적인 주체화 공식을 통해 고찰하고 파농이 찾고자 했던 주체의 정치학을 진단해볼 것이다. 이를 위해 이 논문은 백인성의 의미를 분석하고, 흑인성을 백인성의 대타자로 설정하는 식민화의 과정을 분석 제시하고자 한다. 백인이 발명한 흑인은 보편성에 속하지 않는 특이성의 이름일 것이다. 여기에서 비로소 우리는 파농과 라캉, 그리고 더 나아 가서 들뢰즈와 가타리로 이어지는 연결점을 찾을 수 있다. 파농은 “흑인은 무엇을 원하는가”라는 질문을 제기하면서 탈식민주의와 관련한 답을 모색한다. 이 질문은 분명히 정신분석을 염두에 둔 것이다. 정신분석의 질문은 “여성은 무엇을 원하는가”였다. 당연하게도, 이런 정신분석의 질문에 누락되어 있는 것은 인종이다. 여성 도 백인과 흑인이라는 인종에 따라 서로 다를 수밖에 없다. 파농은 정신분석에서 자명하게 전제되어 있는 ‘인간’에 인종이라는 차이를 삽입한다. 인종은 정신분석으로 외삽되는 것이 아니라 그 논리 자체에 내재하는 것이다. 이를 통해 파농은 정신 분석을 급진적인 사유로 다시 태어나게 만든다. 정신분석의 문제가 광기의 해명이라면, 이 광기를 탈-식민화하려는 것이 파농의 시도인 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this essay is to discuss Fanon with Lacan. Endorsing Hegel and Lacan, Fanon develops the dialectics of racism, the conception of race and racial identity; once race is established by a European colonizer, racial identity should come to exist. In this way, the identity of the colonized is invented by the colonial power. The colonizing process overdetermines the existing subjectivities and transforms them into “native”. Of course, black people existed before the colonization, yet were forced into “Africans” as is the case of “American Indians” by the white men. Indeed, the white men discovered the colored men and called them with any color. This would be typical explanation to the way in which the colonized subjectivity comes to exist. The dominant serves as a mirror which reflects the dominated, in other words, the dominant is set up first, and then the dominated is defined by the dominant. This implies that the dominant, the white men, cannot be recognized, unless the dominated, the colored men, is verified. They could realize themselves as white, when finding the non-white. Fanon’s statement, black soul is the invention of the white, presupposes that the white men should have created their soul, if they want to invent the “black soul.” Fanon challenges the Hegelian master-slave dialectics and paves a way towards the immanent aspect of faciality in the Deleuzo-Guattarian sense, not rejecting European enlightenment, but extending the essential values to the non-European world. In this way, my argument will put forward how Fanon’s conceptualization of negritude is related to Lacan’s formulae of sexuation and further the possible connection between a woman and a black man in the philosophical implication.
