국문 초록

이 연구는 한국 사회에서 세대 간 꿈꾸는 능력의 차이를 만드는 다양한 요인 중에서 가족관계의 질에 주목한다. 최근 한국의 가족은 세대 구성의 변화, 가구원의 감소나 관계적인 측면에서 많은 변화를 겪고 있다. 이러한 가족 구성의 변화에도 불구하고 한국인에게 가족은 여전히 이상적인 인간관계의 원형으로 인식되며, 개인은 가족 구성원과의 상호작용을 통해 가치관을 정립하고 삶의 의미를 찾는다. 그러나 이러한 가족관계의 효과는 상이한 삶의 과정을 겪는 세대에 따라 다르게 나타날 수 있다. 이에 이 연구는 가족에게 부여하는 의미, 가족에게 하는 또는 받는 기대, 가족으로부터 얻는 물질적 또는 정서적 지지가 꿈꾸는 역량, 즉 ‘꿈-자본’과 밀접한 관련이 있으며 이러한 영향을 설명하기 위해서는 세대에 따른 차별적 효과를 고려해야 한다고 제안한다. 이 연구는 2017년 시행된 「한국인의 가치변화와 감정양식 조사」 자료를 분석하여 상상력, 낙관성, 희망, 회복탄력성으로 구성된 꿈-자본에 있어서의 세대 간 차이를 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 가족관계의 질은 전반적으로 꿈-자본을 높인다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 그 효과는 전 세대에 걸쳐 동일하게 나타나지 않으며, 특히 60대 이상 세대에서는 통상적으로 가족관계의 질이 좋다고 수용되는 요인의 점수가 높아질수록 상상력, 희망, 회복탄력성이 낮아지는 모습을 보였다. 이는 가족 구성원들과 주고받는 정서적 및 물질적 지원이 60대 이상 세대, 즉 부모세대에서는 지지보다는 일종의 부담을 작용할 수도 있다는 점을 시사한다. 이러한 현상을 이론적으로 정교하게 설명하는 작업은 이 연구의 추후 과제로 남겨 둔다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on the quality of family relationships across generations which is proposed to make a difference in conditions and abilities to dream in Korean society. In recent years, Korean families have undergone changes in household composition due to the decreased family size and family relationships changed accordingly. Despite these changes in family composition, family is still reckoned as ideal form of relationship for Koreans as people establish their core values and seek meaning in life by interacting with family members. However, family relationship and interaction with family members can have a different impact on people depending on their generation. In this regard, this research posits that the ability to dream, in other words “dream-capital” would be closely related to the meaning imposed on family, the expectation imposed on family as well as given by family, and material or emotional support and its interaction effect will vary by generation. The aforementioned “dream-capital” is composed of four dimensions: imagination, hope, optimism and resilience and its effect is examined using “Survey on changes in values and discrete emotions among Koreans” conducted in 2017. Multiple Regression Analysis generally supports that the quality of family relationships does increase the amount of “dream-capital.” However, the interaction effect is not identified consistently in every generation. For people in 60s’ in particular, the higher the scores are for the factors elevating the quality of family, the lower the scores were for imagination, hope and resilience. This result implies that emotional and material support exchanged within family members could be burdensome for people in 60s’ rather than being supportive. Further theoretical explanation needs to be explored and supplemented.
