국문 초록

이 논문은 조선시대 최초의 야담집으로 알려진 유몽인(柳夢寅. 1559~1623)의 「어우야담」(於 于野談)을 대상으로, 여기에 수록된 일화에 형식화된 다양한 글쓰기 양식을 지식인의 문화적 실천이라는 관점에서 재사유함으로써, 서사 장르가 어떻게 사대부의 제도적 문의 양식을 다양 하게 포섭하고 있는지에 대해 논증했다. 첫째, 「어우야담」은 유몽인 자신은 물론 다양한 신분, 조건, 지역, 세대, 연령에 있는 사람들 의 경험과 관찰, 전언, 전문, 참조, 인용 등을 폭 넓게 반영했다. 이는 세간의 여론을 수정하고 기록된 역사를 수정하려는 사찬 역사, 또는 만록의 글쓰기 양식을 서사적으로 차용한 결과다. 둘째, 일상생활의 지식과 풍속, 정보를 폭넓게 수렴하여 백과전서적으로 기술하되, 인간과 세태, 역사를 은유적으로 성찰할 수 있는 우언적 수사를 활용했다. 셋째, 역사, 사회, 문화, 예술, 인물 등에 대한 판단과 성찰을 비평적 글쓰기로 수행했다. 넷째, 사대부에게 익숙한 생애사 서술 양식인 전기, 행장, 유사 형식을 차용하되, 신분, 젠더, 이념의 경계를 자유롭게 넘나드는 폭넓은 관심을 보임으로써, 사대부의 사고 경계를 확장하는 역할을 했다. 다섯째, 이러한 다양한 글쓰기 양식을 ‘서사’ 양식 안에 포용하거나 변주함으로써, 허구성의 개념을 뛰어넘는 서사성의 다양한 기능과 역동적 양태에 대한 다각도의 실험을 수행했다. ‘이야기’라는 장르에 매개된 개인적, 사회적, 역사적 차원의 상상력과 창의적 관점은 사대부 문인에게 훈련되고 체화된 실증성과 논리성과 결합함으로써, 기존의 다양한 글쓰기 양식을 변주하고 팽창시키는 문학적이고도 문화적 동력으로 작용했다.

영문 초록

This article investigates the various styles and genres of writing contained in various anecdotes in Eouyadam, written by Eou Yu, Mong-in (1559~1623) in the Joseon era. It focuses on intellectuals’ cultural practice of the concept of “writing experiment.” First, Yu Mong-in broadly reflected the experiences, observations, listening, reading, references and quotations of people of various identities. conditions, statuses, genders, regions, generations, and ages, as well as his own. This represents historical writing as a private individual, a form of narrative variation from history or “malrok,” a type of light essay. Second, the book was organized as a comprehensive encyclopedia of knowledge, customs, and information for everyday life, and sometimes contains metaphorical and allegorical rhetorics. Third, the author included critical writings on history, society, culture, art, and literature. Fourth, he borrowed from the writing genre of biography, which includes life episodes and anecdotes, by crossing the boundaries of status, gender, and ideology, thereby expanding the literati’s strict way of thinking. Fifth, by embracing the use of these various forms of writing in his narrative style, he experimented with the various functions and dynamic aspects of narratives beyond the concept of fictionality. Imagination mediated by the fictional narrative genre has become a powerful literary and cultural tools that changes and expands the diverse existing forms of writing by combining with the logic and rationality internalized by the intellectual literati.
