묵시문학적 관점에서 본 쿰란문서의 ‘죽음과 부활’ 이해

국문 초록

  구약학자들은 구약성서의 ‘부활’ 개념이 존재하는가 라는 칠문에 대해 대체적으로 회의적으로 대답한다. 그럼에도 기독교인들뿐 아니라, 유대인들까지도 ‘부활’을 그들 신앙의 가장 중요한 요소 중의 하나로 믿고 있다. 그렇다면 구약과 신약 사이에는 ‘죽음과 죽음 너머의 세계’에 대한 어떤 신학적 담론의 연속성을 가능케한 무언가가 존재했다는 것을 부인할 수 없다. 본 논문은 그 무언가는 묵시문학적 종말론에서 찾아볼 수 있다고 본다. 구약과 신약의 ‘부활’담론은 묵시문학적 종말론을 통해 연속되며, 그 연속의 구체적 형태는 쿰란문서를 통해 제시된다. 헬라제국 말기에서 로마제국 초기에 저술된 쿰란 문서는 자신들이 살고 있던 시대를 역사의 마지막 때라고 보았다. 쿰란공동체는 이 역사적 시기의 ‘종말’과 공동체와 개인의 ‘죽음’은 맞물려 생각하고, 육체적, 물리적 죽음 너머의 세계를 묵시문학적 종말론으로 바라보았다. 쿰란 공동체에게 ‘죽음’은 끝이 아니라, 새로운 세계와 질서가 열리는 새로운 세상으로 진입하기 위한 통과의례였다. 한 시대와 역사의 완전한 해체와 새로운 역사로의 비약이라는 묵시문학적 종말론을 통해, 그들은 죽음을 뛰어넘는 부활의 시대를 확신하였다.

영문 초록

  Scholars, in general, remain unconvinced that the Old Testament shows the concept of "resurrection." Yet, it should be pointed out that both Christians and Jews regard "resurrection" as one of the most important elements of their belief systems. In light of this, there is something to bridge between the Old and New Testaments. This paper presents that something is "apocalyptic eschatology." The discourses on "resurrection" is advanced by the literary and theological vehicle of apocalyptic eschatology. The concrete example of how apocalyptic eschatology bridges the Old and New Testaments in the discourse on "resurrection" is the Qumran Scrolls. The Qumran Scrolls were written during the late Hellenistic period and the early Imperial Roman. Against this historical background, the Qumran community considers the end of this colonial powers in tandem with the death of individuals of the community. The community looks beyond the physical death. To the Qumran community, "death" is not the end of the world, but the beginning of a new world and a new order. Thus death is an indispensible rite of passage so as to enter the life beyond death. The Qumran community envisions "resurrection" beyond death in their apocalyptic texts in which the old system is totally deconstructed, and leaps to a new history of God.
