국문 초록

19세기 후반 미국은 거대한 사회적 변화를 경험한다. 이러한 변화에 미국 개신교는 사회복음이라는 형태로 대응하였다. 이 시대는 낙관주의적인 시기였으며, 진보에 대한 이념은 강렬하였다. 과학은 그러한 희망의 수단이 되었고, 전 세대가 그것에 감염되었다. 1870년대와 1880년대에 기원을 갖는 사회복음 운동은 1900년에서 1914년을 “사회복음의 시대”(Era of the Social Gospel)로 장식하였다. 라우센부쉬는 1907년 이후 10년간 사회복음을 주도적으로 이끌었으며, 누구보다도 신학적으로 대응하였다. 그는 사회변화의 필연성을 강력히 주장하면서도 개인중생의 필요성을 강조하였다. 그는 종교와 과학, 신앙과 역사, 기독교와 세속문화, 신학과 사회학의 통합을 주장하였다. 그에게는 하나님 나라가 이 모든 것을 결합시키는 힘이었다. 그는 19세기 자본주의가 구할 수 없는 산업사회의 악에 대항한 기독교의 새 시대의 목소리였다. 그는 살아서보다 죽은 후에 더 많은 역할을 했다. 사회적이고 경제적인 변형이 이 땅에 오고 있는 하나님 나라의 도래에 포함된다는 그의 메시지 본질은 기독교복음의 한 부분이다. 그는 이 나라의 사회적 기독교의 실질적인 창시자이고 가장 뛰어나고 만족스러운 대변자였다. 그는 아마도 미국 신학계에서 가장 창의적인 정신의 소유자이며, 의심할 여지없이 다른 어느 개인보다 그 시대 종교적 삶에 영향을 준 사람이다. 그의 사회복음 예언자로서 뛰어넘은, 그의 이상에 대한 힘과 마찬가지로 그의 독특한 개성에 놓여 있다. 그는 깊고 신실한 신앙심을 가지고 있었다.

영문 초록

In the last of the 19c the American society has faced the giant social upheavals. The protestant church met this challenge through the form of the social gospel movements. There were optimistic times and a full of strong progressive ideas. A science was a means of the such hope and the whole times was infected with it. The social gospel has taken its rise in the 1870s and ‘80s. The year from 1900 to 1914 was named as the Era of the Social Gospel. Rauschenbusch led the social gospel during ten years after 1907 and of all men theologically dealt with the social problems. He insisted not only strongly the necessity of the social change, but also the inevitability of the personal rebirth. He claimed the combination of science and religion, faith and history, Christianity and secular culture and Theology and sociology. For him the Kingdom of God was the power to unite these factors. He challenged so to the industrial evils, which the capitalism was unable to redeem, that he was a voice of the new period. His role is greater after his death. The essence of his message, which the social and economic transformation comes to the earth and it is included in the Kingdom of God is a part of the Christianity Gospel. He was a real founder of the social Christianity in America and a great speaker. He has probably the most creative mind in American Theological group and undoubtedly influenced on the religious living of his contemporary. His excellence as a social gospel prophet has taken hold his unique character like a power of the ideal. He has a deep faithful believe.
