국문 초록

일반적으로고고학계에서 말하는석영은 암석학적 분류체계에 따르면 맥석영을 뜻한다. 매우 이른 구석기시대부터 선사시대말기까지 맥석영은 흔하게 이용되었던돌감이었다. 석영의형태와 자연면의 상태는 돌감 산지의 특성을 반영한다. 석영은 자갈과 모난돌의 형태를 갖는데, 전자는 매끈한 자갈면(neocortex)을 갖고 후자는 불규칙한 자연면을 갖는다. 돌감의 자연면은 석기 생산에 있어서 매우 중요한 역할을 담당한다. 최근 조사된 풍곡리 유적은 모난돌 형태의 석영의 경우 돌결면을 때림면으로 사용하고 자갈돌 형태의 석영의 경우 자갈면을 때림면으로 선호하고 있어서, 두 가지 유형의 석영의 이용전략을 잘 보여준다. 돌감으로서 석영은 석기제작과정에서 자주 의도치 않게 깨지기 때문에 흔히 ‘마지못해 쓰는 돌감’으로 간주되어 왔다. 그러나 석기 제작자가 돌결면이 발달한 주요 방향을 잘 읽을 수 있다면 이처럼 석기가 의도치않게깨지는현상을줄일수있다. 풍곡리유적에서주목되는현상은 돌결면을 의도적으로활용하여 크고 얇은 격지를 생산해냄으로써, 석기 제작의 기술적 장애물을 오히려 기술적 장점으로 역이용하고있다는사실이다. 선사시대사람들의행위를잘이해하기위해서는돌감으로서석영 의 특성에 대한 보다 세밀한 연구가 필요하다.

영문 초록

Among archaeologists, quartz is generally reconsidered the quartz vein which is classed a mono-mineral rock in the petrographic classification. The quartz vein is frequently used worldwide since Paleolithic archaic until the recent prehistory. The morphology and cortex of Quartz reflect the source of raw material. The form of quartz is divided into cobble and rubble, the first has the smooth neocortex and the last has irregular cortex. The cortex of the state plays quite important role in lithic production. The site Punggokri is an example which shows the gestures according different quartz two types. In the case of vein quartz, the cleavage surface is preferred as the striking platform, but in the case of quartz cobble, the neocortex is favored as the striking surface. As a raw material, quartz is considered a second choice since the cleavage surface often introduce the fracture of flake. But if you read well the orientation of quartz cleavage surfaces, the accident of knapping can reduce. What is very interesting is that the technical obstacle is inversely profited as an advantage technique site Punggokri. The quartz cleavage surface is exploited deliberately to produce large flakes at the site. We need the character of quartz as the raw material are studied more minutely to capture well the behavior of prehistoric man.
