국문 초록

본 논문은 대졸 여성의 경력을 배열분석을 통해 유형화하고 여성의 경력단절 해소 및 경제활동 참여 활성화를 위한 정책이 여성의 경력 유형별로 차별화되어 수립･시행되어야 함을 주장한다. 이를 위해 청년패널조사(YP) 1차부터 9차까지 데이터를 활용하여 출산을 경험한 전문대졸 이상 여성 906명에 대해 경력 유형화를 위한 배열분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 대졸 여성의 경력은 ‘비상용직 전환형’, ‘상용직 지속형’, ‘임시직 종착형’, ‘자영업 주도형’의 네 가지로 유형화되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 분석 결과는 정부가 여성의 경력단절 해소를 위해 획일화되고 천편일률적인 고용률 제고 정책을 시행하기보다는 여성들 각각의 경력 유형에 맞는 정책을 시행･수립해야 할 필요가 있음을 보여준다. 결론 부분에서는 여성들의 경력단절 해소를 위한 구체적인 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Career interruption of female tertiary graduates in Korea is a problem that many governments have attempted to tackle—but to little avail. To address this problem, this paper uses nine-wave data from the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor’s Youth Panel(YP) to identify employ-ment patterns among female tertiary graduates in Korea through cluster analysis, and presents four distinct groupings of employment patterns. The paper then analyzes the characteristics of each of these identified clusters based on age, number of children, final degree type, region of final degree acquired, and major. Based on this two-step analysis, the paper points out flaws in current government solutions for career interruption of female tertiary-level graduates, and ar-gues for the need to put in place policies that address each cluster’s respective needs. Suggested policy implications highlight the need to consolidate Female Re-employment Support Centers, re-define majors that need special attention regarding employment support, improve pregnancy and child support policies, and render current entrepreneurship support policies more effective.
