국문 초록

노화는 언어의 의미처리에 영향을 미치는 중요한 변수이기 때문에 병리적 노화로 인한 문제를 조기에 감별하기 위하여 단어 정의하기 과제를 통한 의미지식 평가가 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 65세 이상 노인 90명을 대상으로 구체단어 정의하기 과제를 실시하여, 연령, 교육수준에 따른 정의하기 능력을 비교하고, 연령, 교육수준, 인지기능과 정의하기 능력 간 상관관계와 정의 유형별 능력 차이를 가장 민감하게 보여주는 채점방법을 분석하고자 하였다. 그 결과, 지각적 정의는 연령과 교육수준, 분류적 정의는 교육수준의 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 반면에 기능적 정의는 연령, 교육수준 및인지기능과 아무런 상관성이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 채점방법에서는 출현척도보다 총점 척도가 정의 유형별 산출능력을 더욱 민감하게 보여주는 것으로 나타났다. 위의 결과들을 종합해보면, 노화 과정이 진행될수록 의미지식 범주별 손상 정도가 다르게 나타나므로, 병리적 노화에서의 인지저 하를 확인하고 정상 노화와 선별하기 위해, 유형별 단어 정의하기 능력을 확인하고, 유용한 채점방법을 적용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

영문 초록

As aging is an important factor that affects semantic processing, there have been many studies for evaluation of semantic knowledge with word definition task in order to identify pathological aging-induced problems in early stages. This study, therefore, aims to identify a correlation between age, education, and cognitive function, and ability to define, and analyze the most sensitive scoring method which shows differences in ability by definition types, by carrying out a task to define concrete word and comparing the subjects defining abilities according to their age and education, particularly targeting 90 subjects over the age of 65. As a result, it was found that perceptual definition is affected by age and education, and categorical definition is done by education. On the contrary, functional definition was found to have no correlation with age, education, and cognitive function. Lastly for the scoring method, it was found that total score scale relates with more sensitive productive ability by definition types, than appearance scale. To sum up the above findings, as the extent of the damage to semantic knowledge by categories differs according to aging process, it would be meaningful to identify word definition ability by types and adopt an useful scoring method, for the determination of cognitive decline in pathological aging and its distinction from natural aging.
