포천 중리 늘거리유적에서의 돌감 획득과 이용 양상

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 한탄강유역에 위치한 포천 중리 늘거리유적에서 출토된 백악기 철원분지 기원의 돌감을 중심으로 돌감 획득과 이용 양상을 살펴보았다. 남부지방과 달리 중부지방은 좋은 암질을 획득할 수 있는 공간이 한정적이기 때문에 철원분지가 위치한 한탄강유역은 돌감의 확보를 위한 연구에 있어 중요하다. 연구를 위해 산지와 접목된 돌감분석을 통해 철원분지 돌감을 화산력응회암, 화산회응회암, 안산암/ 섬록암, 화강반암으로 구분한 다음, 각 돌감을 획득할 수 있는 위치를 추정하였다. 다음으로는 유적에서 출토유물의 석기구성을 통해 맥석영 및 흑요석과의 비교를 통해 각 돌감이 가지는 특징을 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 유적으로 반입된 원석의 형태와 돌감별 석기 특징이 각 돌감을 획득할 수 있는 위치와 획득 당시의 원석의 상태, 용이성, 암질에 따라 다름을 알 수 있었다. 이는 당시 늘거리유적에 살았던 사람들은 여러 종류의 화성암이 철원분지에 있음을 인지하고, 돌감의 물리적인 특성을 잘 파악하여 돌감에 맞는 적합한 석기제작 기법을 적용했음을 의미한다. 돌감을 비롯한 다양한 조건들이 충족되었기 때문에 늘거리유적에서는 한탄강유역의 여러 유적들에 비해 활발하게 석기제작이 이루어졌으며, 시기에 따라 반복해서 점유되었던 것으로 추정된다.

영문 초록

This study looked at the raw Material procurement and use from the Cretaceous Cheorwon Basin at the Neulgeori Upper Paleolithic site in Jung-ri, Pocheon. Unlike the southern regions, the Hantan River basin, where Cheorwon Basin is located, is important for raw material research, since the central region has limited space to obtain raw materials of good quality. This study investigated how hunter-gatherers who inhabited the Neulgeori Site procured and used stone raw materials, based on the in-situ survey of the site area and the aspects of stone tools excavated from the Neulgeori Site. For this, igneous rocks of the Cherwon Basin were categorized into four kinds of lappilli tuff, ash tuff, andesite&diorite and granite porphyry, and in-situ analysis and the analysis of stone tools were carried out according to the raw materials. The reason the Neulgeori Site was settled at the current location is that a variety of igneous rocks could be procured efficiently. The Neulgeori Site is located within a short radius to secure granite porphyry, can be provided at any time with lappilli tuff and andesite, and is the center of areas in which ash tuff is probable to be distributed. Particularly, this is revealed more clearly when the site is compared with other upper paleolithic site near the Hantan River. Hantan River, which provides water essential for survival, flows to the southeast of the Site; and mountain provides resources from which food and raw materials can be procured are abundant to the northwest. On this wise, various conditions including raw materials were satisfied at the Neulgeori Site, and thus the production of stone tools were carried out there lively compared with other surrounding sites, and the area of the site was repeatedly occupied every period.
