서구 사유에서 열성적인 갈래로서 해석학적 총체주의

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 서구 사유의 주요한 두 가지 갈래ㅡ하나는 우성(優性) 적이며 다른 하나는 다소간 열성(劣性)적인, 각각 투명주의(transparentism)와 해석 학적 총체주의(hermeneutical holism)라 불리는ㅡ의 기원을 소크라테스 이전의 철학적 사유 안에서 추적하고, 이를 보다 최근의 형태들 안에서 논의한다. 과학주의(즉 환원적인 과학적 실재론)와 창조론적 근본주의가 투명주의 내에서의 논쟁으로 제시되고 비판되는 한편, 해석학적 총체주의는 주관성 테제라고 이름 붙여진 것, 즉지성적 주관성과 시공간적 체계가 본질적으로 밀접하게 연결되어 있다는 독트린을 중심으로 구성된다. 이 독트린은 주관성이 필연적으로 유한한 시공간적 인격들로 육화된다는 것과 역으로 육화된 주관성을 어딘가에 그리고 어느 때인가 포함 하고 있지 않는다면 시공간적 체계는 존재할 수 없다는 것을 의미한다. 이 논문의좀 더 짧은 두 번째 부분에서는 이 두 갈래의 사유가 지닌 세계화의 가능성과 관련된 결과들이 이끌어내질 것이다. 다소간 역설적이지만, 해석학적 총체주의가 동양적 전통에 더 가깝다고 하더라도, 가장 쉽게 세계화되고 있는 것은 투명주의자의 사유이다.

영문 초록

In this essay two major strands of western thinking, one dominant and other rather recessive, labelled transparentism and hermeneutical holism respectively, are traced back to their origins in pre-Socratic philosophical thought and discussed in their more recent shapes. Scientism (i.e. reductive scientific realism) and creationist fundamentalism are presented and criticized as quarrelling siblings in the family of transparentism, while the family of hermeneutical holism is built around the doctrine, labelled subjectivity thesis, that intelligent subjectivity and the spatiotemporal system are essentially interrelated. This means that subjectivity is necessarily embodied as finite spatiotemporal persons and that conversely there can be no spatiotemporal system unless it contain embodied subjectivity somewhere and sometime. In the smaller second part of the essay, some consequences are drawn relating to the possibility of globalization of the two strands. Somewhat paradoxically, although hermeneutical holism is closer to eastern traditions, it is transparentist thinking that gets globalized most effortlessly.
