가족동반자살에 대한 사회심리학적 탐색 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 우리나라에서 사회문제가 되고 있는 가족동반자살의 실태를 파악하고, 이에 관련되는 사회구조적 조건과 심리적 기제를 탐색해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 1995년부터 2005년에 걸쳐 주요 일간 신문에 보도된 가족동반자살 기사에 대한 내용 분석을 실시하였으며, 사회심리학적 이론과 개념을 적용하여 가족동반자살 실태에 대한 해석을 시도하였다. 신문기사에 보도된 가족동반 자살의 발생건수에 대한 시계열 분석을 해 본 결과, 1997년 말에 발생한 IMF 경제위기 후에 일시적으로 급중한 후 감소 추세를 보이다가 2001년 이후 사회양극화가 심화되는 최근에는 가족동반자살 발생건수가 지속적으로 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 가족의 특성별로는 만성적 생활고나 생활수준이 급락한 30대 연령의 부모가 가족갈동의 고통에 처한 경우 가족동반자살의 위험성이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 동반자살의 유형별로는 자녀를 살해하고 부모가 자살하는 ‘자녀살해부모 자살’의 유형이 가장 많아 자녀의 인권과 가족이 생명 포기의 단위가 될 수 없다는 사회적 규범형성의 필요성이 제기 되었다. 사회양극화로 특징되는 사회구조를 배경으로 소외계층이 경험할 수 있는 상대적 박탈감과 무력감 및 극단적 가족주의로 인한 자아혼동 현상을 가족동반자살에 이르는 심리적 위험요인으로 논의하였다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 토대로 소외계층을 위한 사회안전망 구축과 생명존중 및 건전한 가족가치관 교육을 위한 정책 개발을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study was to explore the collective suicide of families as a social problem in Korea, taking into account the changes in social structure and the familial and psychological characteristics as well. Given no formal statistics, data of familial suicides were collected from the contents analysis on the articles of major daily newspapers from 1995 through 2005. The time-series analysis showed the rapid increase in the frequency of familial suicide in 1998, which was the right after the IMF economic crisis, and its continuous increase since 2001, in which the economic bi-polarization has been vivid among Korean families. Concerning the family characteristics, the most vulnerable group was parents aged thirties suffering with family conflicts in the chronic economic deprivation or the sudden drop of socioeconomic status. Parents suicide following the homicide of their own children was the mostly committed type of collective suicides of families. In the context of economic bi-polarization of Korean society, the socially alienated families relative deprivation, helplessness, lack of self differentiation were discussed as possible psychological factors of committing the collective suicide. In results, this study suggested the policy development to construct the social safety system and to meet the socially and economically alienated families deprivation and to educate them with the healthy family ethics and values.
