국문 초록

인천광역시 강화군에 위치한 교동도는 경관형성에 있어서 중앙정부의 영향을 많이 받아왔다. 고려시대의 경우 군사적·외교적 요충지로 사용되어 왔으며, 대몽항쟁기에는 배후농경지로서 간척사업이 진행되었다. 조선시대에 들어와서는 한양으로 들어오는 관문으로서 군사적 요충지로 활용되었을 뿐만 아니라 수도와 근거리에 위치한 지리적 이점 등으로 인해 왕족들의 유배지로도 사용되었다. 일제강점기에는 토지개량사업의 일환으로 간척이 진행되면서 대규모 농장이 들어서게 되었고, 해방 후에는 한국전쟁이 발발하면서 황해도 연백군에서 많은 피난민들이 교동도로 유입되었다. 휴전협정이 체결되면서 교동도는 남과 북의 접경지역에 위치하게 되었고 남북간 긴장이 고조됨에 따라 철책선, 대북확성기, 벙커 등이 설치되었다. 이후 남북간 화해의 분위기가 조성되며 교동도를 찾는 관광객들이 늘어남에 따라 대룡시장이 활기를 띄기 시작했다. 이러한 점을 종합해 보았을 때, 교동도의 경관이 중앙정부에 의해 많은 영향을 받아왔고, 탈냉전기에 접어들면서 경관을 형성하는 주체가 중앙정부에서 민간으로 이양되고 있음을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

Gyodong Island, which is located in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon Metropolitan City, has been under a significant influence from the central government in terms of its landscape. During the periods of Goryeo dynasty and Joseon dynasty, the island was used as a key strategic location for the military and diplomatic purposes. It was also used as the place of exile when members of royal families were expelled from the capital due to its proximity to the capital. During the Japanese Occupation, another land reclamation project was launched, resulting in the construction of large farms. Then, many refugees from Yeonbaek-gu, Hwanghae Province, fled to the island during the Korea war. After the armistice, the island suddenly found itself sitting near the border between the two confronting Koreas. As the tension mounted, they installed barbwire fences, speakers for propaganda broadcasting, and bunkers. With the easing of tension between the North and the South, the number of tourists visiting the island increased, and this invigorated Daeryong Market. Overall, the landscape of the island has been under significant influence from the central government.
