국내 개최 동아시아음악학 국제학술대회의 성과와 국악학계의 반영

국문 초록

본 연구는 국립국악원과 한국국악학회가 2018년 8월 공동 주최한 동아시아음악학회의 제6회 서울 심포지움(이하 본 학술대회)의 의미와 국악학계의 성과와 반영을 논의한다. 개최국의 관점에서 바라본 학술대회의 내용과 성과는 국악학의 발전을 성찰하는 의미에서 연구의 필요성이 있다. 본 학술대회는 국악학자들이 동아시아 음악문화연구에 관한 최근 관심사와 새로운 주제, 다양한 연구방법 등을 보다 적극적으로 공유할 수 있는 학술활동의 장을 제공하였고 국악공연 관람과 연구자료 배부, 연구기관으로의 국악원 소개 등 국악학의 여러 면모와 입지를 국제 학계에 보여주었다. 학계와 해외 학자들에게 국악학과 국악연구의 동향을 소개하여 이후 아시아 연대 연구에서의 한국음악분야 활성과 국악학 연구로의 가교 작업을 하였다. 국악학자의 국제적 활동 증대와 학문후속세대의 국제화 역량강화에 실질적 도움을 주었으며, 학계의 인적자원 구축과 교류에 기여하였다. 신진학자양성, 교육적 효과, 자연스러운 학문적 성장이 함께 맞물려 선순환의 구조로 나아갈 수 있는 원동력이라는 의미부여가 가능하다. 그러나 아시아의 학생들이나 신진학자들이 서로 알아가며 네트워크를 형성할 기회는 부족했다. 동아시아음악학계 내에서도 보다 긴밀한 소통과 교류가 가능한 분과모임의 조성이 필요하며 이는 음악 주제별 분과가 효과적으로 사료된다. 동아시아 음악학계에서의 한국학자들의 성장은 한국을 아시아문화 연구의 허브로 만들어가는 준비과정의 하나가 될 것이며 향후 적극적 학술행사의 유치와 진행은 한국음악학계의 새로운 부흥과 교육적 기회로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This research explores the meaning and outcome that the field of Korean traditional musicology earned by hosting and programming the 6th Symposium of the Music of East Asia Study Group of ICTM. In August 2018, the National Gugak Center and Korean Musicological Society co-hosted the MEA symposium in Seoul, Korea. The symposium was not only successful but also greatly influenced scholars and students in the field. First, the symposium provided scholars a place to communicate with one other, discussing new trends and topics and providing a space to share research data and information on East Asian music studies. Further, the symposium helped promote a better understanding of Korean traditional music among many scholars from all over the world, so that they can increase their interested in Korean music scholarship. As such, the conference was a bridge between foreign scholars and the scholarship of Korean performing arts. Second, the symposium helped young students and new scholars in traditional music to strengthen their qualification as future generation scholars by giving them the opportunity to experience international scholarly activities and to learn and to realize their need to advance toward a wider academic world. However, the chance to build a network among students and young scholars who study Asian music was not enough. In order to create closer relationships among them with academic communication, additional programs are required with group meetings based on research topics or themes. The growth of Korean scholars in the field of East Asian music study will be able to make Korea a hub of Asian culture research. A more active approach in hosting and organizing international conferences in Korea can bring new chances for the field of Korean traditional music to move forward with better educational influence for students.
