국문 초록

본 연구는 그동안 선행연구가 주목하지 않았던 외국인 주민의 계층 정체성과 삶의 질의 결정요인을 실증적으로 규명하고 비교하고자 하였다. 특히 외국인 주민의 주류 사회 적응을 위하여 그 역할이 기대되는 시민정체성을 측정하고 계층 정체성과 삶의 질에 미치는 영향력에 초점을 맞추어 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위하여 2015년 다문화가정실태조사 자료를 활용하여 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면 부부 생활 요인을 비롯한 상당수 통제변수들이 외국인 주민의 계층 정체성과 삶의 질에 유의미한 영향을 미치는데 비해서, 시민정체성의 강화가 계층 정체성과 삶의 질 개선을 이끌어 낸다는 주장을 펼치기에는 상반된 결과들이 도출되었다. 따라서 일부에서 주장하는 체류신분의 안정이나 동화주의적 접근이 이민자의 계층의식과 삶의 질을 제고시킬 것이라는 인식에 대한 검토가 필요하다. 또한 향후보다 개선된 다문화지원 정책의 수립을 위해서 본 연구의 결과는 기초적 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The present study aims to empirically analyze the determinants of class identification and quality of life for foreign residents in South Korea that prior literature has failed to pay attention to. In particular, this research focuses on not only measuring civic identity which plays an important role in immigrants’ adaptation to Korean mainstream society but also investigating the impact of civic identity on class identification and quality of life. To this end, the National Survey of Multi-cultural Families 2015 was utilized for getting the data and analyzing regression models. According to a series of results, most of control variables including marital relationship factor appear to affect foreign residents’ class identification and quality of life with statistical significance. Whereas conflicting results failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the claims that reinforcing civic identity may result in enhancing the level of class identification as well as the quality of life. Thus, it is necessary to reconsider the recognition that the stability of immigration status and assimilation approach could improve the situation related to class identification and quality of life for foreign residents. In addition, results of this research will be used for establishing more improved policies for multi-cultural families in the future.
