영어 학습동기와 영어 학습전략에 관한 연구

국문 초록

이 연구에서는 대학 신입생들의 대학 입학 전 내신/수능영어 학습 중점정도를 조사하고 중점정도에 따라 영어 학습동기와 영어 학습전략 사용에 차이가 있는지를 살펴보았다. 362명의 대학 신입생을 대상으로 영어 학습동기 설문지와 영어 학습전략 설문지를 사용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 결과 첫 번째, 신입생들은 대학 입학 전 수능영어 위주(내신영어 겸함)에 가장 많은 학습의 중점을 두고 있었다. 두 번째, 전체 참여자의 영어 학습동기와 전략사용은 보통 수준이었다. 세번째, 수능영어 집단이 내신영어 집단에 비해 영어 학습동기와 전략사용이 더 높았다. 내신영어 집단과 수능영어 집단의 영어 학습동기와 전략사용의 차이를 줄이는 동시에 전체 대학 신입생들의 영어 학습동기와 전략 사용을 적극적인 수준으로 촉진할 수 있는 수업 환경 조성이 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is investigate any differences in English learning motivation and strategies of participants based on their learning focus on high school English GPA(EGPA) and English scores in CSAT(ECSAT). The participants were 362 Korean university freshmen and data was collected by English Learning Motivation Survey and Strategy Inventory for Language Learning at the beginning of the semester. The study indicated that (1) most participants focused ‘the ECSAT-mainly centered group’. (2) All participants’ English learning motivation and learning strategies placed on an average level. (3) Specifically, the English learning motivation and strategies of the ECSAST group(the ECSAT-mainly centered group and the ECSAT- fully centered group) was higher than the EGPA group(the EGPA-mainly centered group and the EGPA-fully centered group). The finding suggested that the curriculum of College English Courses needed to be designed to narrow the gap of the English learning motivation and learning strategies between two groups and to encourage students to utilize these learning factors as much as possible.
