국문 초록

한사오궁(韓少功)은 지식청년(知識靑年) 출신으로서 1980년대의 심근문학(尋根文學)을 주도한 대표작가로 잘 알려져 있다. 2016년 국내에도 번역 및 소개된 바 있는 《일야서》는 바이마후(白馬湖) 지역에서 함께 생활했던 지청들의 삶을 그리고 있다. 중국 국내에서 “지청 세대의 정신사(精神史)”로 소개되었던 것에서도 알 수 있듯이, 이 작품은 지청들의 농촌 에서 보냈던 청년 시절의 회고록이자 혁명 이후 끊임없이 사회에 적응하고자 했던 고난의 기록이다. 본 논문은 작품 《일야서》에 등장하는 인물들의 행적을 따라가며 이들이 문화대혁 명을 대하는 태도에 주목하여 지청 세대에 뿌리 깊게 박혀 있는 복잡한 윤리의식을 짚어보 고자 한다. 이는 문혁이 지청 세대들에게 짙게 드리운 그림자의 윤곽을 짚어보는 데에 그치지 않는다. 오히려 문혁이라는 거대한 역사적 사건이 일상이 되었을 때, 지청 세대들이 보편 적으로 마주할 수밖에 없었던 윤리적 모순 앞에서 그들의 불안감 억울함, 그리고 위로받고 싶은 복합적인 심리를 살펴보고자 하는 것이다. 이로써 한사오궁이 《일야서》를 통해 묘사한 일상으로서의 역사 앞에서 인간 존재가 보편적으로 느끼는 감정의 결을 따라가 보고자 한다.

영문 초록

Han Shaogong is an educated youth writer, and is one of the major writers who have led the trends of ‘Root-seeking literature’ in the 1980s. A Book of Day at Night depicts the lives of educated youths who lived together in the Baimahu area. This work is a memoir of the educated youths who had spent their heyday of youth in the rural areas of the provinces, and could also be referred as a record of the hardships they had to go through during their period of adapting to the society shortly after the revolution; it was introduced as the spiritual history of the educated youth generation in China. This paper explores the trails of the characters appearing in A Book of Day at Night, and analyzes the complex ethical consciousness that is deeply rooted in the educated youth generation by focusing on their attitude toward the Cultural Revolution. Through the analysis, this paper aims to not just simply overview the shadows cast by the Cultural Revolution, but to scrutinize the complex mind-set - anxiety, dismay, and nervousness - of the educated youths who were facing the universal ethical contradiction caused a massive historical event known as the Cultural Revolution. To further extent, this paper seeks to pursue the trail of common emotions which human beings can experience in history as a daily life through looking into the lens of Han Shaogong in his work, A Book of Day at Night.
