中國早期電影劇本與古典小說的關係研究 ― 以陳春生為中心

국문 초록

중국 초기의 영화 시나리오는 아직 성숙되지 않았고 소설가가 겸임하고 있는 것이 대부분 이었다. 陳春生（1867-1940）은 上海 基督敎 계의 신문지 《通問報》의 주필과 번역소설 《五更鐘》의 작가로 알려져 있어 이에 대한 연구는 여러 편이 있었으나, 중국 제1 세대 영화 작가로서 上海 영화계에서 활동했던 陳春生에 대해서는 아직 전문적인 연구가 이루어지지 않은 상태였다. 본고는 陳春生이 上海 商務 印書館 影戱部에 어떻게 들어간 것인지, 번역소설을 어떻게 활용해 영화 시나리오 개편 사업을 한 것인지 등에 대하여 우선적으로 분석할 예정이다. 중국 최초의 9 편의 장편 영화 시나리오 중 陳春生의 작품이 3 편을 차지하고 대부분 중국 고전소설을 각색한 것들이다. 그 중 《孝婦羹》은 《聊齋志異》로 각색된 것으로 중국 《聊齋》시 리즈의 시조라고 할 수 있다. 한편 《荒山得金》은 중국 영화에서 발견한 최초의 시나리오로 명대 소설인 《今古奇觀》을 원작으로 하며 현대 무협 영화 특징에 맞는 최초의 영화로 꼽힌 다. 본고는 대본과 원작 중의 인물 이미지, 줄거리의 발전 및 창작 특징에 대하여 깊이 논의할 것이다. 陳春生의 세 편의 영화 시나리오는 동 시대 소설가의 영화 작품과 달리, 모두 뚜렷한 교화 의미를 가지며 독특한 시대적 의미를 나타낸다. 본고는 上海 영화계에 활동했던 陳春生을 환원시키고, 基督敎 文學界의 陳春生과 서로 대조해볼 생각이다. 또 현재 학계에서는 아직 陳春生의 사망 연도에 대하여 확실히 고증되어 있지 않은데 이에 대해 고증해보고 陳春生에 게 적절한 역사적 평가를 해줄 생각이다.

영문 초록

A Study on the Association between Chinese Early Film Screenwriting and Chinese Classical Novels— Focus on Chen Chunsheng’s work Chinese film screenwriting in its early stages, was mostly done by the novelists themselves. Chen Chunsheng (1867-1940), who was the key editor of 《通問報》 in Shanghai and the author of 《五更鐘》, has been widely studied. However, there has been very few studies done with focus on his contribution in the film industry. This paper, first of all, will indicate how Chen Chunsheng sets his foot in Shanghai Film and Television Press, and analyse how Chen Chunsheng, makes a film script adaptation based on his novel translating skills. Out of the nine long literary movies in China, three were from Chen s, and most of them were based on the stories of Chinese classical novels. For instance, ‘Filial Piety’ 《孝婦羹》 was adapted from ‘Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio’ 《聊齋志異》, which was regarded as the ancestor of the Chinese series “Ghosts”. ‘Barren Hills Gold’ 《荒山得金》, was adapted from the Ming Dynasty novel ‘Ancient Wonders’ 《今古奇觀》, and that film was regarded as the earliest film script adaptation that meets the characteristics of modern martial arts movies. This paper conducts an in-depth discussion on the image of movie characters, the plots of the movie and the features of his screenwriting. Obviously, these three film screenwriting of Chen’s embraced the purpose of the edification of the masses. They were presented in a very unique style which were totally different from most contemporary filmmakers. This paper intends to present the weight of Chen’s screenwriting that he deserves while indicating his literary talent.
