국문 초록

본 논문은 남한 강원권의 최종간빙기~최종빙기에 형성된 구석기 유적에서 발달하는 지질토층(Geosols)의 분포 양상과 석기 유물층의 편년을 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 연구방법으로서 강원권의 해안가, 하천 주변, 그리고 현무암 용암 대지 위에 발 달하는 4개 구석기 유적 연구사례를 집중 검토하였으며, 특히 토층매질 형성과 유물출토층의 편년체계를 다각도로 고찰하였다. 연구 결과 해안가의 구석기 유적과 하천주변의 단구면 위에 나타나는 다양한 퇴적층과 지질토층 형성시기는 후기의 침식작용으로 인해 단구면의 형성시기와 부합되지 않는 부정합적 맥락을 고려해야 하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 임진-한탄강 유역의 현무암 대지 위에 발달하는 구석기 유적들은 용암이 흐른 시기가 이른 시기(약 50만 년 전)인지 나중 시기(약 10만 년 전) 인지 구분되어야 하며, 이를 위해서 구석기 유적 발굴지점별로 부지 주변이나 퇴적층 하부에 분포하는 현무암질 용암에 대하여 별도의 연대측정을 실시해야 하는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 강원권 구석기 유적 형성과 고인류의 환경변화에 적응했던 양상 파악을 위해 토양층서 단위로서 지질토층에 대하여 다양한 지시자료의 사용도 고려되어야 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to contemplate on the occurrence of Geosols and chronological framework of artefactual layers of the paleolithic sites in the Gangwon Province of South Korea. For the methods four paleolithic sites, encompassing sites developed near the coastal area, river bank area and on the basaltic lava plateau, were examplified, particularly focusing on mutidirectional reviewing of the matrix-forming processes and chronological system of the artefactual layers. As result firstly it is shown that geochronologically the boundary between soil-sedimentary deposits and terrace surface are to be considered in the context of unconformity-bounded strata due to post erosional process. Next as to the geochronological frame of the paleolithic sites of the Imjin-Hantan river basin, it has to be taken into consideration that each paleolithic excavation sites located directly on the early basaltic lava flow (ca 500ka) has to be distinguished from that of paleolithic sites developed above the later lava flows (ca 100ka); So it makes sense to indicate that chronological data is to be optimaly obtained either from the nearby basaltic flows or from lavas flows below the sedimentary deposits in the excavation sites. Lastly it can be important that multiproxy data has to be available for the Geosols , as working soil-stratigraphic units, in order to recognize the paleolithic site- formation process and hominin response and adaptation to the changing environments in the Gangwon Province.
