국문 초록

본고는 학급회의를 중심으로 민주적 학급운영 모형을 설계하고 그 실행 결과를 분석하였다. 본 연구자는 안건의 성격에 따라 학급회의의 진행 방식과 목적을 변화시켰다. 학급 내적인 문제에 있어서는 문제에 대한 구체적인 해결책 도출을 목적으로 학급회의가 진행되었다. 학급회의의 권한과 능력을 넘어서는 학급 외적인 요소가 결합된 문제에 대해서는 두 가지 방식으로 접근하였다. 하나는 담임교사가 동료 교사들과의 조정을 통해 학급 외적인 요소를 제거함으로써 해당 문제에 대한 의결 권한을 학급회의에 부여하는 것이었다. 다른 하나는 학급 외적인 요소의 존재를 인정하고 학급회의를 통해 달성할 수 있는 목적을 조정하는 것이었다. 여기에서 학급회의의 목적은 해당 문제에 대한 뚜렷한 해결책 마련보다는 그와 관련한 학생들의 의견과 감정을 공유하는 것이 되었다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 학급운영 모형을 실행함으로써 다음의 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 학생들은 학급회의를 운영하면서 자신의 의견을 공적인 공간에서 표현하는 능력과 다른 사람의 의견을 경청하는 태도를 일정 정도 기를 수 있었다. 둘째, 학생들은 정해진 규칙을 일방적으로 따르는 것과 규칙을 스스로 정해 그 결과를 받아들이는 것 사이의 차이를 인지하기 시작하였다. 마지막으로 개인적인 차원에서 학교폭력 가해자와 피해자의 관계가 개선되었고, 뚜렷하게 긍정적인 행동 변화를 보인 학생들도 나타났다. 여기에서 주목해야 할 점은 학급회의의 기능이 단지 문제적 상황 해결에 한정되지는 않았다는 것이다. 특정 학생들에게 학급회의는 자신의 가치와 능력을 인정받을 수 있는 공간으로서 의미를 갖기도 하였다.

영문 초록

This study designed a democratic classroom management model with classroom meetings and analyzed the results of its implementation. The researchers changed the way the classroom meetings were conducted and their purpose according to the nature of the issue under discussion. When it came to the issues solely concerning the members of the class, students were encouraged to produce a concrete solution to the problem. As for the problems involving outside factors that exceeded the capacity of the classroom meeting, this study adopted two different approaches: one was that the homeroom teacher removed the outside factors with the help of other teachers, and the other was to accept the external elements in play and adjust the purpose of the classroom meeting. In this situation, students participated in the classroom meeting just for sharing their opinions and feelings. The results of this study are as follows: first, students to a certain degree developed both the ability to express opinions in an open space and the attitude to attentively listen to others. Secondly, students gradually came to realize the difference between blindly following rules already set by others and making their own rules and facing the consequences. Lastly, at an individual level, the relationship between the attacker and the victim of school violence was improved and some students exhibited clear changes in behavior. What is noteworthy here is that the role of the classroom meeting was not confined to problem solving. For some students, the meeting functioned as a public space where they could seek recognition from fellow students.
