국문 초록

공연과 영화, TV의 상호매체적 관계는 미디어의 역사와 궤를 같이 한다. 매체조합, 매체전이, 매체참조 등의 유형으로 관찰되는 이들의 상호매체적 관계는 새로운 미디어 양식과 다양한 콘텐츠를 양산해왔다. 본 연구는 세 미디어의 상호매체적 산물로서 라이 브캐스트 시네마 시어터(Livecast Cinema Theatre, 이하 LCT)에 주목하며, 그 대표적인 사례로 미국 메트로폴리탄 오페라의 Live in HD와 영국 내셔널 시어터의 NT Live의 생산과정과 수용의 양식을 살펴보고, LCT의 매체적 속성을 탐구하였다. 각사례에 대해 국내·외 관계자의 심층인터뷰와 문헌연구를 진행한 결과, LCT는 라이브 공연의 무대를 영상으로 재매개하는 다층적인 과정을 거쳐 독자적인 매체성을 담지하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, LCT는 라이브 공연을 TV의 제작 양식과 유사 하게 전이하는 형태이지만, 영화의 관습적 유통·상영양식이 조합·참조된다. 본 연구는 공연에 기반 한 콘텐츠를 매체이론의 관점에서 이해하고, 공연과 영상매체의 상호매체적 관계를 심층적으로 탐구함으로써 공연학과 미디어학의 학제 간 연구를 확장 하였다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다. 본 연구가 급변하는 공연과 영상매체의 상호작용을 이해하는 데 있어 이론적 초석이 되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

Since the advent of film and TV, theatre has developed intermedial relations with both media. Based on the diverse perspectives and theories about practices across media including intermediality, intertextuality and remediation, intermedial relations are narrowed down to three subcategories according to its forms of interaction: medial combination, medial transposition and medial references. In this sense, Livecast Cinema Theatre (LCT) is a recently invented form of mediatized theatre, a live performance digitally transmitted from stage to screen, primarily in select movie theatres worldwide. With case studies of Live in HD and NT Live, this research examines how LCT establishes its mediality from an intermedial process of production, distribution and screening, using literature reviews and personal interviews with original producers and local presenters. This study indicates that LCT is an extension of theatrical transposition, combined with codes and conventions of broadcast and cinema, and that explains the essential quality and nature of its mediality. This study thoroughly explores the intermedial aspects of mediatized theatre, focused on LCT, which have not yet been broadly researched, and this would contribute to further understanding the expanding sphere of theatre under mediated circumstances.
