국문 초록

본 연구는 2010년 현재 132개의 4년제 일반대학을 대상으로 대학의 국제화 수준에 영향을 미치는 결정요인들을 대학의 제도적 지원을 중심으로 실증 분석하였다. 본 연구의 분석 결과, 대학의 정책, 정보, 교과에 대한 제도적 지원은 외국인교수비율의 내부지향적 국제화 수준에 긍정적인 영향을 주며, 대학의 교류, 조직에 대한 제도적 지원은 외국인학생비율의 내부지향적 국제화 수준에 긍정적인 영향을 주고, 대학의 교류, 정보, 교과에 대한 제도적 지원은 교환학생비율의 외부지향적 국제화 수준에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 대학의 국제화에 관한 기존의 선행연 구들이 국제화 지표의 상위 또는 특정 지역의 일부 대학들에 대한 사례 연구들을 중심으로 이루 어졌던 반면, 본 연구는 전국 단위의 대학으로 연구 범위를 확장하여 대학의 정책, 교류, 조직, 정보제공, 교육과정 등 각종 제도적 지원들이 대학의 국제화 수준에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대해 실증적으로 검증하였다.

영문 초록

In this research, empirical study has been conducted on the determinants of internationalization level in 132 4-year Korean universities as of 2010 focused on the institutional support of universities. The research shows the following results. First, the institutional supports for policy, communication and curriculum affect inbound internationalization level of international professors’ ratio in a positive way. Second, the institutional supports of exchange and organization affect inbound internationalization level of international students’ ratio positively. Finally, the institutional supports for exchange, communication and curriculum affect outbound internationalization level of exchange students’ ratio in a positive way. Contrary to preceding studies regarding internationalization in Korean universities whose case study sample groups consisted of a limited number of top-ranking universities and were based in a certain region, this study covers all 132 nationwide 4-year Korean universities. In addition, the empirical study results shows how the institutional supports for policy, exchange, organization, communication, and curriculum affect the internationalization level of universities.
