국문 초록

장현광은 經緯라는 비유를 통해 理氣를 해석하고 있다. 그는 천지 또는 세계는 理氣의 合에 의해서 이루어지는 것으로 보고 있다. 여기에서 장현광은 理를 세계의 불변적 질서를 부여하는 것이기 때문에 날줄[經]이라 하고, 이에 비해 氣는 세계를 구성하는 질료적 성격을 가지고 있기 때문에 씨줄[緯]로 보아, 이러한 理氣의 經緯的合에 의해서 道가 이루어지고, 또 이 도에 의해서 천지가 생성되고 운행된다는 理氣不離) 또는 理氣一原의 관점을 주장한다. 장현광은 理氣가 떨어지지 않고 둘이 아님을 주장하면서도 理의 주재성을 강조한다. 장현광은 經緯라는 개념이 理氣뿐만 아니라 세계 내에 존재하는 모든 것을 설명할 수 있는 해석학적 개념임을 분명하게 말하고 있다. 그러므로 그는 천지뿐만 아니라 인간의 性情이나 도덕의 성취에도 經緯를 통한 해석이 가능하다고 말한다. 여기에서 그는 經을 표준으로 삼아 緯를 바로잡는 主經治緯를 통한 心性의 수양론을 말한다.

영문 초록

Jang Hyun Gwang interprets Li Qi through a comparison of Wrap and Woof. He understands that heaven and earth or the world is formed by the union of Li and Qi. In this case, Jang Hyun Gwang understands that, as Li forms the immutable order of the world, it is Warp, and that, as Qi has the nature of matter forming the world, it is Woof. Accordingly, he asserts that Dao is formed by the union of Li and Qi like Warp and Woof, and that heaven and earth is formed and moved by Dao, which means a perspective of the inseparability of Li and Qi (Li and Qi are inseparable) or the same origin of Li and Qi (Li and Qi ge nerate from a single source). Jang Hyun Gwang asserts that Li and Qi are inseparable, not two, and at the same time emphasizes Li domination of Qi. He clearly states that the concept of Wrap and Woof is an interpretive concept that can explain not only Li Qi but also all things in the world. So, he says that human xing and qing or moral accomplishment as well as heaven and earth can be interpreted through Wrap and Woof. Here, he means a mind cultivation theory of straightening up Woof by Wrap set as a standard.
