A Comparative Study on Liu Yuxi’s Biographies - focused on the Old and New Tang Histories

국문 초록

This is a study on the discrepancies between Liu Yuxi’s 劉禹錫 (772-842) biographies contained in the Jiu Tangshu 舊唐書 (Old Tang History) and the Xin Tangshu 新唐書(New Tang History). For this study, Liu s biographies in the two Tang histories are chosen as primary sources for Liu s official life. Then, I try to find out the discrepancies between the two biographies. This paper contains an annotated translation of Liu s biography in the Jiu Tangshu and discrepancies between his two biographies in the Tang histories. In addition, other pertinent materials including Liu’s autobiography Zi Liuzi zizhuan 子劉子自傳 are also employed. In the translation, the biography is divided into twenty sections by my own determination in order to effectively compare with Liu s biography in the Xin Tangshu.

영문 초록

刘禹锡(772-842)是唐代著名的政治家, 也是中唐文坛的代表人物之一。他与白居易(772-846)和柳宗元(773-819)等一起在政治及文学方面崭露头角。在政治上与王叔文(758-806)主导了永貞革新, 但最终还是失败了。因此被降职, 并被处为边疆地区。然而, 在文学上描写了许多与夷族的生活中获得的文学风尚。为了了解他的这种文学世界, 要先了解他的政治背景和他的人生。 对此的第一次硏究资料有在《旧唐书》和《新唐书》里的刘禹锡传和《子刘子自传》。以外, 还有一些可以简单地一览他人生片段的《资治通鉴》、《全唐文》、《全唐诗》、《登科记考》、《唐诗纪事》等等。唐、宋人笔记中也记载了他的一些轶事。通过这些资料能了解他的公共的及个人的生活, 进而了解他的思想和哲学。如此一来能够深入分析他的作品。 为了本项研究, 《旧唐书》和《新唐书》被选为主要来源。本文比较《旧唐书》和《新唐书》中的刘禹锡传, 分析两者之间的不同点。本研究首先翻译《旧唐书》中的刘禹锡传, 再加注解。然后, 与《新唐书》中的刘禹锡传相比较, 必要时, 以《子刘子自传》及其他资料为依据, 指出不同程度的差异。
