과학관 전시 및 연계활동에서 나타난 만 5세 유아의 경험 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 과학 전시물 관람과 전시물 연계활동에서 만 5세 유아들이 어떠한 경험을 하는지 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 이에 연구자는 국립과천과학관에서 만 5세 유아 8명을 대상으로 참여관찰과 심층면담을 중심으로 하는 질적연구를 실시하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 유아는 과학관 전시물 관람과 전시 연계 공작활동에 참여하면서 다양한 질문을 산출했으며 그 과정에서 다양한 과학 지식을 쌓아갈 수 있었다. 둘째, 과학과 공작활동의 연계학습과정에서 또래들과 다양한 협력학습이 이루어졌다. 셋째, 전시물 관람과 연계활동을 통해 유아들이 과학에 대한 즐거움을 경험을 하였으며, 전시관 재방문 등을 통해 과학적 경험이 재구성되며 확장되는 경향이 나타났다. 넷째, 과학관 전시물 관람 및 연계활동을 통해 유아들이 다양한 방법으로 자신의 생각과 느낌을 주도적으로 표현하는 기회를 가졌다. 다섯째, 유아들의 호기심이 과학전시물이나 공작활동 뿐 아니라 주변세계로 확장되면서 새로운 발견과 과학적 탐색이 일상화되는 모습을 보였다. 이처럼 유아에게 효과적인 전시물 관람 형태는 유아의 흥미에 기초한 주제로 전시물을 탐색하고 관람과 관련 있는 놀이 활동이 병행되는 것임을 살펴볼 수 있다. 이러한 결과는 과학전시관 관람과 연계한 유아과학교육의 새로운 접근이 모색될 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of 5 years old children through science exhibits and connected activities. For the study, the researchers conducted a qualitative study focusing on participatory observation and in-depth interviews with eight 5 years old children at the Gwacheon National Science Museum. The results were as follows; First, the children were able to obtain various scientific knowledge through the watching the science exhibits and the science exhibit-connected activities. Second, the children learned through the cooperation with other children who participated in the activities together. Third, the children had a pleasant experience about science through the activities. Especially, the pleasant experience in the exhibit was a motivation for the children to visit the science museum again. Fourth, the children were able to express their thoughts in various ways. The children expressed their own thoughts using verbal, physical and visual expressions through watching the science exhibits and science exhibit-connected activities. Fifth, watching the science exhibitions and science exhibit-connected activities caused the expansion of curiosity and allowed the children to discover new things. Consequently, watching the science exhibits and science exhibit-connected activities was the effective strategy for the children to enjoy science in a pleasant way. Based on the children s interests, exploring the exhibits was the effective type of watching the science exhibits for the children. These findings suggested that a new approach to science education for children could be found in conjunction with science museum.
