국문 초록

이 논문은 히포크라테스의 저작에 나타난 과학적 방법론과 생명윤리학적 함의에 대해 논구하고 있다. 소크라테스와 대조적으로 몸의 치료를 위한 학문인 의학을 정초한 히포크라테스는 증거중심의 과학적 방법론을 발전시켰다. 이 과정에서 그는 질병의 발생을 합리적으로 진단하여 체질에 맞는 처방을 찾아내었다. 그는 또한 본성과 습성의 상관관계를 파악하여 체질뿐만이 아니라 정신의 치료가 가능함을 모색하였다. 이를 통해 히포크라테스는 의학의 적용원리가 대상에 따라 다른 적도의 원리를 따라야 함을 파악하였다. 그는 의료행위와 관련지어 선서를 통해 경신의 의미를 새롭게 규정했다. 선서는 의료공동체의 신의와 교육 그리고 환자에 대한 의료인의 자세를 규정하고 있다. 이점에서 선서는 생명윤리와 직업윤리의 관점에서 새롭게 평가될 수 있는 내용을 담고 있다. 따라서 생명의 가치를 유지하는데 지속적인 토대가 되는 선서는 의료윤리의 시금석이 되고 있 다. 이것이 히포크라테스의 의학과 선서에 관심을 갖게하는 까닭이다.

영문 초록

This paper treats the scientific methodology and bioethical implications of the works of Hippocrates. In contrast to Socrates, Hippocrates, who founded medicine as a science for the treatment of the body, developed evidence-based scientific methodology. In this process, he reasonably diagnosed the occurrence of the disease and found a prescription according to patient s constitution. He also grasped the correlation between nature and customs and investigates to treat not only the constitution but also the mind. Through this, Hippocrates recognized that the principles of medical application must follow the principles of other equatorial lines according to the patient. He redefined the meaning of the New Testament through an oath in connection with medical practice. The oath defines the well-being and education of the medical community and the attitude of the medical practitioner to the patient. In this respect, the oath contains contents that can be newly evaluated in terms of bioethics and professional ethics. Thus, the oath, which is the foundation for sustaining the value of life, is becoming a cornerstone of medical ethics. This is why we are interested in Hippocratic medicine and the oath.
