랑케의 보편사의 구상과 가다머의 해석학적 비판

국문 초록

이 논문은 낭만주의 해석학에 기초하여 역사학을 구상한 랑케의 역사학을 해석학의 관점에서 분석하고자 한다. 가다머는 진리와 방법 제 2부에서 낭만주의 해석학이 역사학에 적용되는 과정에서 발생하는 문제를 탐구한다. 구체적으로 가다머는 슐라이어마허의 낭만주의 해석학에서 출발하여랑케, 드로이젠, 딜타이 등의 역사주의를 거치면서 해석학이 정신과학의 고유한 학문론으로 성립하는 과정상에 내재하고 있는 학문적 아포리아를 해명한다. 따라서 가다머는 랑케를 역사학뿐만 아니라, 해석학에서도 중요한위상을 차지하고 있는 인물로 평가한다. 이러한 논의에 따르자면, 랑케에대한 연구는 해석학이 구체적인 학문 분야에서 적용되는 전모를 파악하는데 도움이 될 뿐만 아니라, 슐라이어마허에서 딜타이로 이어지는 해석학의 전승과정을 이해하는 데에 꼭 필요한 연구주제이기도 하다. 랑케에게 있어서 역사를 역사로부터 이해하는 방법은 우선 과거 자체를 이해하는 것에서부터 시작된다. 그리고 과거가 모여서 만들어진 세계사는 헤겔처럼 특정한관점을 선취한 후에 이론적으로 파악하는 것이 아니라, 역사로부터 성립된다. 랑케에게 있어서 과거의 사건은 역사 전체를 위한 개별 단계에 불과한것이 아니라, 역사 전체를 이루는 부분이다. 이는 텍스트의 의미를 텍스트자체로부터 이해해야 한다는 해석학의 방법과 정확하게 일치한다. 따라서 랑케의 역사학에 관한 논의가 실제로 해석학의 원리를 얼마나 충실하게 실천하였는지는 흥미 있는 주제일 뿐만 아니라, 그의 이론적 정합성을 살펴보는 계기도 될 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study set out to analyze the historical studies of Lanke, who formulated his historical studies based on romantic hermeneutics, from a hermeneutical perspective. In the Part II of Truth and Method, Gadamer made an inquiry into problems that took place in the application process of romantic hermeneutics to historical studies. Specifically, he offered an explanation about the academic aporia inherent in the establishment process of hermeneutics as a unique academic theory in mental science from the romantic hermeneutics of Schleiermacher and through the historicism of Lanke, Droysen, and Dilthey. He thus considered Lanke as a figure that held an important status in the hermeneutics as well as historical studies. According to Gadamer, it seems that research on Lanke will not only help to tell a full account of hermeneutics being applied to concrete academic fields, but also make an essential research topic to understand the transmission process of hermeneutics from Schleiermacher to Dilthey. For Lanke, the method of understanding history with the history itself began with understanding the past itself. Consisting of such past times, the world history explores the history of the past itself rather than examining it theoretically after taking a certain perspective like Hegel. For Lanke, events in the past were not mere individual stages for the entire history, but parts of the entire history, which exactly matches the method of philological hermeneutics to interpret the meanings of individual texts with themselves. An investigation into how fully Lanke s discussions about historical studies practiced the principles of hermeneutics will thus be an interesting topic and provide a chance to examine his theoretical coherence.
