한국 고대사의 연구 성과와 역사교과서 서술의 방향

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 한국고대사의 최신 연구성과를 역사교육 및 초 중 고등 역사교과서 서술에 반영하기 위한 방안을 모색하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 현행 교육과정과 집필기준을 검토하여 역사교육의 주요 요소를 추출하고, 그러한 교육과정의 제시가 적절한지 여부를 검토하였다. 그리고 『한국고대사 연구의 새동향』이란 책을 중심으로 역사교육과정 등의 내용요소와 연관되는 한국 고대사 연구의 최근 동향과 연구 방향에 대해 살펴보았다. 이와같이 역사교육과정과 최근의 연구성과를 검토한 결과, 교육과정 등이 연구동향을 적절하게 반영하고 있는 면이 많지만, 동시에 적지 않은 부분에서 연구 동향과 거리를 두고 있다는 인상을 지울 수 없었다. 물론 연구의 흐름과 내용이 역사교육에 반영되기까지는 일정한 시차가 있게 마련이다. 그리고 이러한 시차는 역사교육에서 내용 선정이 보다 신중하게 이루어져야 한다는 점에서 당연하다. 하지만 이미 연구에서 새로운 견해가 제출되고 그것이 통설로 받아들여지는 내용 조차 교육과정이나 교과서에 반영되지 않는 면이 적지 않음에서 알 수 있듯이, 현행 교육과정이나 교과서 편찬 시스템에 대한 점검이 필요한 부분이다. 물론 개개 성취기준과 내용 요소 등에서는 최신 견해와 자료 등을 반영하도록 요구하고 있다. 그러나 고대사 전체의 내용 구성의 맥락이 더 중요하며, 이 부분에서 연구의 동향을 반영할 필요가 절실하다는 점을 지적하고자 한다. 그러한 점에서 필자는 고대국가 형성론 중심의 고대사 교육과정을 비판하고, 고대사회론과 고대국가 성격론의 입장에서 구성가능한 내용 구성에 대해 제안하였다. 또한 한국고대사의 입체적 이해를 위해서 동아시아사 속에서 한국고대사의 이해, 즉 고대국가의 대외관계 및 국제환경에 대한 이해 방식에 대해서도 검토하였다. 이러한 제안은 물론 앞으로 교육과정 등의 구성에서 반영될 수 있는 하나의 시론적 제안이기 때문에, 보다 엄밀한 검토가 필요하다. 그리고 역사연구의 성과를 반영하는 측면만이 아니라, 오히려 역사교육의 입장에서 교육과정의 구성 등을 통해 역사 이해의 맥락을 재구성하여 역사연구의 방향에 시사점을 제공하는 측면을 통해, 양자의 접촉점이 확대될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the present study was to explore the ways how recent research findings on the ancient Korean history can be reflected in history textbooks of elementary and secondary educational courses as well as history education. The current national curriculum and writing standards for textbooks were reviewed to obtain the main elements of history education, and the appropriateness of the curriculum presently being employed was examined. The recent trend and direction of research in the ancient Korean history associated with the content elements of the history education curriculum, centering on the book, New Research Trends in the Ancient Korean History, were reviewed as well. It was found that the recent research direction of the ancient Korean history was appropriately reflected, to some degree, in the current national curriculum, yet there also were some discrepancies. Examination on the current national curriculum or textbook-compiling system seems warranted for newly accepted orthodox views on the ancient Korean history to be presented in textbooks. Furthermore, a new content composition appears required for an accurate description of the overall flow of the ancient Korean history. Thus, a new direction for description was proposed with a stance on the ancient society and the ancient state’s nature whereas the content composition of the current national curriculum of Korean history focusing on the ancient state development was criticized. A direction for describing the ancient state’s international relations and environment from an East Asian history’s perspective was examined as well for a multifaceted yet integrated understanding of the ancient Korean history.
