대학생 연애에서의 만족과 자아 성장

국문 초록

현대사회에서 연애는 중요한 연구주제로 부각되고 있다. 특히 대학생들에게 연애는 발달과업으로서의 성장과정이자, 동시에 불안한 경쟁사회에서 안정감을 제공하는 친밀한 관계로서 중요한 화두이다. 그런데 심리, 문화 혹은 젠더 차원에서 진행된 기존의 연구들은 연애 중인 행위자들 간의 ‘상호작용’ 영역에 관해서는 깊이 있게 분석하지 못하였다. 특히 심리학적 연구는 연애 만족에 치중하여 분석하는 경향이 강하였기 때문에, 연애가 자아 성장에 미치는 영향을 검토하지 못하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 ‘관계적 자기에 기반한 연애 유형’, ‘진정성’과 ‘성찰성’, ‘자존감’의 개념에 근거하여 행위자 간의 상호작용으로서 연애를 이해하고, 이들이 ‘연애 만족’과 ‘연애를 통한 자아 성장’에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 서울 소재 C 대학의 대학생 368명으로부터 연애에 대한 설문을 수집하였다. 그 결과, 현재 연애의 여부는 연애 만족과는 정적 관련이 있지만, 연애를 통한 자아 성장과는 유의미한 관련이 없다. 연애 유형에 따른 연애 성향의 경우 연애 만족과 자아 성장 둘 다와 유의미한 관계를 보인다. 특히 (자기희생의) ‘안개성향’은 다양한 차원에서의 연애만족 뿐 아니라 자아 성장과도 유의미한 정적 상관관계를 나타내지만, 껍질성향, 난장이성향, 산만성향은 대개 부적 관계를 보인다. 한편, 감정적 자기표현 차원에서 수행되는 ‘진정성’은 정서적 의사소통 만족 및 문제 해결 의사소통에 긍정적으로 영향을 주지만, 연애를 통한 자아 성장에는 영향을 미치지 못 한다. 다른 한편, 자신의 의식, 감정, 행위 등을 반추하고 재구성함으로써 수행되는 ‘성찰성’은 정서적 의사소통만족과 자아 성장에 정적 영향을 미친다. 끝으로 외모 자존감이 전반적 연애 만족과 정서적 의사소통 만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 수행 자존감이 자아 성장과 정적 관련이 있다. 요컨대, 본 논문은 대학생들의 연애에서의 만족과 자아 성장에는 진정성과 성찰성의 요인이 별개로 작용하고 있으며, 특히 연애에서 자아 성장을 위해서는 자기희생과 수행에 대한 자신감 그리고 성찰성이 중요하다는 점을 제기한다.

영문 초록

Love, intimacy, and dating are very important themes and tasks for youth, in particular, university students. There were much research on love and dating of university students from the perspectives of psychology, culture or gender studies; however, most research lacked interactional implication of dating couples. While psychological studies mainly focused on individual satisfaction, they could not shed light on the problem of self-growth. Therefore, this research aims at empirical explanation on relations between relational-self-oriented love types and authenticity-reflexivity as internal capacity for building up relations. This research collected surveys from 368 students at C University in Seoul. Statistical findings are quite interesting. Current dating does not mechanically guarantee self-growth. Regarding love-types, only ‘Fog style’ which indicates dissolving or sacrificing oneself for his/her lover, is significantly correlated with love-satisfaction and self-growth; other types did not appear meaningful. In terms of internal capacity, authenticity stemming from one’s emotion and motif is significantly correlated with emotional and problem-solving communication; it does not show significant relation to self-growth. On the contrary, reflexivity as mental feed-back capacity for changing one’s attitudes, values, and behaviors is significantly related not only to emotional communication but also to self-growth. In addition, self-esteem on appearance is related to love-satisfaction while self-esteem on performance is related to self-growth. In sum, this paper examined various relational implications of love and dating for university students. It suggests that self-sacrifice, reflexivity and self-esteem on practices are significant elements for self-growth of lovers.
