국문 초록

모옌의 「인생은 고달파」는 산동 서문촌을 배경으로 토지개혁에서 개혁개 방에 이르기까지 세 세대 사람들의 갈등을 풀어낸 이야기다. 이 작품은 윤회의 서사각도로 묘사되는데, 윤회는 소윤회와 대윤회로 나뉜다. 소윤회란 서문뇨가 인간에서 동물로 윤회하는 축생도의 육도윤회이고, 대윤회는 토지 소유제가 사유제에서 공유제로, 그리고 다시 소유제로 회귀하는 과정에 토지를 둘러싸고 벌어지는 생산방식, 인간과 토지의 감정, 인간과 인간 사이의 관계 등 많은 요소가 포함된다. 이러한 점에서 윤회는 단지 토지개혁의 의의 뿐아니라 인간과 토지의 관계를 다루고 있다. 대윤회는 소윤회를 포함하며 소윤회는 자기의 윤회를 통해 대윤회에 참여한다. 이러한 의미에서 모옌의 이 소설은 개인과 촌락의 역사를 빌어 그 배후에 있는 국가의 역사를 아우르고 있다. 20세기 후반 50년간의 중국 농촌의 역사는 전환, 단절과 반복의 역사며, 또한 비극적인 역사다. 그 비극의 원인은 기본적으로 계급대립의 오류 및 그 오류의 여러가지 변형에서 온 것이다. 모옌은 역사의 비극을 통렬히 인식하고 독특한 서사방식을 구사했다. 이 작품에서 모옌은 해학적이고 유희 적인 형식으로 역사를 서술했지만 시종 역사의 정의, 인간의 정의 및 인성 의 정의라는 기본 틀을 견지하고 있다. 아마도 모옌은 자신의 역사와 인류 의 정의의 가치의 수호에 대한 자신의 세계관을 너무 분명히 인식하고 있었기 때문에 해학과 풍자의 언어로 자신의 강력한 비판을 포장할 수밖에 없었을 것이다.

영문 초록

“Life and Death are Wearing Me Outl,” which Mo Yan chose as his representative work after winning the Nobel Prize, is the story of three generations of people, covering from land reforms to policy reforms in Ximen Village in Shandong Province. This work is written as a narrative using the reincarnation as the overall structure and reincarnation is categorized to small and great. The small reincarnation is a six-level reincarnation, during which Xi Menniao is transfigured from a human to an animal. In contrast, the great reincarnation represents the transition of a number of factors, including changes in the pro-duction system via land reforms, e.g. from private to public ownership; the sentiment between humans and land; and the relationships between humans. In this aspect, reincarnation can be considered not only to represent the meaning of land reforms but also the relationship between humanity and land. The great reincarnation includes the small reincarnation, and the small reincarnation becomes a part of the great reincarnation. Consequently, this novel of Mo Yan depicts national history through a closer look of an individual and his village. During the later half of 20th century, the history of rural China is a tragic time of transition, discontinuity of policies and repetition. The reason for such tragedy is the aftermath of class division and its reper- cusssions. Mo Yan was deeply aware of the tragic history and used a unique narrative style. In this work, history is not the main theme; instead it is a ghostly fig-ure redrawn by the quality of the language used. However, no matter how humane and humorous he deals with history, Mo Yan maintains the basic framework of the justice in history, hu-man justice, and the definition of humanity. Perhaps Mo Yan himself was well cognizant of his world view on the preservation of the history and the values of human justice so he had to use humor and satire to hide his strong criticsms.
