국문 초록

본고는 포은 정몽주 시에 나타난 성리학의 함의를 원형적 구조로 보고, 그의 문학적 성취를 원형 상징으로 살펴보았다. 그동안 포은 시문학 연구는 고려사라는 역사적인 한계성에도 불구하고 고전과 한문학자 및 사학자들에 의해 비교적 많은 성과를 이루었지만 대부분의 문학 연구가 고전적인 기술 을 통해 시세계를 산출하고 있다. 이 글은 포은 시의 내연에 작동하고 있는 것을 ‘원형 상징’이라는 현대적 감각으로 밝히는 작업이다. 요컨대 포은의 시에서 주로 관찰되는 주요 사상을 성리학적 담론으로 파악하고, 문학의 함 축적 기능과 원리인 원형 상징을 통해 조명했다. 정몽주의 성리학적 사상을 원형 상징으로서 탐구하는, 본고의 연구 방법으로써 시적 근원성에 대하여 필립 훨라이트(P. Wheelwright)의 반복적 상 징으로, 시적 상상력에 대하여 워 프라이드 귀에린(W. L, Guerin)의 모티브 상징으로, 시적 생명성에 대하여 노드롭 프라이(N. Frye) 의 순환적 상징을 통해 분석했다. 첫째 반복적 상징과 시적 근원성에서는 필립 휠라이트(P. Wheelwright)의 반복적 원형 상징이 드러나고 있는데, 이것을 포은 시 ｢湯浴｣, ｢姑蘇臺｣, ｢冬至吟 1｣을 통해, 둘째 모티브 상징과 시적 상상력에서는 워 프라이드 귀에린(W. L, Guerin)의 모티브 상징이 표출되는데, 시 ｢吟詩｣, ｢丹心歌｣, ｢聞曉敲｣을 통해, 셋째 순환적 상징과 시적 근원성에서는 노드롭 프라이 (N. Frye)의 순환적 상징이 두드러지는데, 시 ｢春興｣, ｢懷金海舊遊｣, ｢江上憶周左參 1｣등으로 각장에서 각각 3편씩 총 9편의 시로서 관찰하였다. 탐구한 포은 정몽주의 시적 사유 체계는 성리학적 세계관에서 대부분 호출되고 있으며, 그의 사상은 성리학 관점에서 인간과 자연 그리고 우주의 보편타당한 법칙을 개진하며, 시적 요소 역시 보편타당한 법칙을 갈파한다. 그에게 있어 시는 성리학의 기본 개념으로서 자연의 본성을 온전히 익히고, 실천하는 것으로써 시의식의 중심에는 우주 만물을 생성하고, 구성하는 원형 상징체계를 가지고 있다는 점을 밝혔다.
