국문 초록

이 글은 중세 스콜라철학과 종교개혁자들의 연계성 문제를 구원 이해의 관점에서 해석한다. 지금까지 스콜라주의와 종교개혁 사상의 연계성 문제는 대부분 상호 대극적인 관점에서 다루어져왔다. 그러나 스콜라주의와 종교개혁 신학의 대결구도의 역사적인 의미를 규명하는 것과 오늘날 시대적인 과제들과 관련하여 이 둘의 관계성을 평가하는 것은 서로 구분해서 살펴 볼 필요가 있다. 다시 말하면 양자의 어느 한쪽만을 일방적으로 고집하여 합리화시키려는 시도는 특정한 역사 현상을 일반화시켜버리는 오류를 범할 우려가 있다. 종교개혁자들의 신학사상은 중세 스콜라주의 사상 속에 은폐된 교리체계와 인식론적 단절을 추구하고 있다는 점에서 역사적 정당성과 그 특성이 확보된다. 특히 그들의 신학은 스콜라주의의 세례 속에 형성되어 스콜라주의를 극복하는 방향에서 전개되었다. 프로테스탄트 개혁신학은 스콜라주의와 논쟁 및 대립을 통해 그 실체가 형성되었다. 그러므로 이 글은 스콜라주의 운동의 시대사적인 의미와 그 운동을 이데올로기적으로 이용한 교회체제 및 신학을 탐구하고 스콜라주의와 대립된 방향에서 신학적 정당성을 주장한 종교개혁자들, 특히 루터와 칼뱅의 구원관을 분석한다. 결국 이 글의 초점은 스콜라주의와 종교개혁신학의 연계성과 단절성은 무엇이며 스콜라주의 체계를 송두리째 거부함으로써 초래된 종교개혁 신학의 도그마에 내포된 한계성도 동시에 밝히려 한다. 그럼으로써 오늘날 21세기 시대사조에 양자의 체계가 어떻게 창조적으로 접목될 수 있는지를 모색해보려 한다.

영문 초록

This paper examines a linkage between medieval scholasticism and the Reformation in the light of soteriology. In terms of the research trend, scholasticism and the Reformation have so far been treated in the symmetrical perspective. However, it is necessary to look at each other separately in order to identify historical significance of confrontation between scholastic theology and the Reformation in the 16th century, and to evaluate their relationship in face of today’s challenges. Scholasticism consists of academic systems of writing and teaching especially in theology and philosophy, and it dominated medieval Roman catholic church and theology from the eleventh century to the 15th century. It is in pursuit of epistemological break from doctrines concealed in the scholastic system that the Reformers’ theology ensures its historical validity and characteristics. Thus, this paper focuses on revealing what is severance and association between scholasticism and the Reformation, and also illustrating the limitations inherent in the dogma of the Reformation theology. It will follow that this paper explores how the linkage between scholaticism and the Reformation theology can be grafted creatively in the 21st century zeitgeist.
