공대 대학원생의 대학원 생활 및 진로에 대한 질적 사례연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 국내 공대 대학원에 재학 중인 연구 참여자들의 경험사례를 수집하고 분석하여 대학원 생활과 진로문제에 대해 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울소재 상위권 연구중심 대학 두 곳의 석사과정에서 공부하고 있는 13명의 연구 참여자들과 심층면담을 진행하였다. 이들의 학업과 연구경험이 곧 생활경험이라는 점에 주목하여 공대 대학원에서의 대학원 생활 전반에 대한 다양한 내러티브를 수집하고, 이를 바탕으로 우리나라 공대 대학원의 교육 및 연구 환경이 개선될 수 있는 구체적이고 실현가능한 지향점을 모색하고자 하였다. 이 과정에서 연구 참여자들이 대학원 진학을 고려했던 시점에서의 고민부터 대학원에 진학하여 경험한 대학원에서의 수업 및 연구실 생활, 그리고 이후의 진로계획까지를 심층면담을 통해 탐색하였다. 이를 통해 향후 국내 공대 대학원이 최적의 교육 및 연구 환경을 갖추기 위해 개선되어야 할 내부적인 요소들을 재학생들의 관점에서 구체적인 경험사례들을 통해 확인할 수 있었다. 연구 결과 연구와 학업에 집중할 수 있는 재정적 지원, 대학원생의 인권을 보장하고 심리적 안정감을 줄 수 있는 제도적 지원, 대학원생의 연구에 실질적인 도움이 되는 유연한 수업설계 및 다양한 강좌개설 등 국내 대학원 진학을 위한 유인책의 강화가 필요하다는 점이 확인되었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the lives and career paths of graduate students in the engineering field by collecting and analyzing narrative data. In-depth interviews with 13 research participants enrolled in master’s programs in engineering at two prestigious research-oriented universities in Seoul were interviewed. Under the premise that their life experiences coincide with their study and research experiences, we collected data on a wide range of experiences of graduate engineering students to find a detailed and feasible plan to improve the education and research environment in graduate engineering programs. In the process, we learned what life as engineering graduate student is like, and also about their career plans. The implications suggest that there needs to be consideration for several internal factors in order to provide the best research and study environment. The results of the research show that there is a need for financial support to concentrate on their research and study, systematic support on protecting the human rights of the graduate students and providing them with emotional well being, and flexible course selection with diverse practical courses that aid research, among many other needs. Meeting such needs will increase the desirability to enter the graduate engineering program.
